My family (me, hubby, and two kids ages 20 and 17) just returned from a fabulous visit to Chicago. We booked our six-night stay at MDA Chicago City Apartments and couldn't have been more pleased. The staff at Leading Apartments was very helpful and -- for about the same price as a downtown hotel (there is no hotel/motel tax when you sign a short-term lease!) -- we enjoyed a spacious and chic 2 bed/2 bath apartment on the corner of Lake and Wabash with a full kitchen, lots of closet space, three flat-screen TVs, washer/dryer and many of the same amenities as a nice hotel (gym, rooftop garden, concierge in lobby, convenient downtown location, etc.). And did I mention the FREE wi-fi??? Yes, you do have to take out the trash (chute is near the stairwell on same floor), wash dishes (there is a full-size dishwasher!) and strip the beds and wash the towels when you leave, but the effort was minimal. Our corner apartment had a view of Trump Tower. The El tracks are noisy, even on the 14th floor, but we got used to it. We purchased 7-day CTA passes and rode the train and buses everywhere - even to/from the airport. We didn't have a car, but I think there is a garage across the street that residents can use. The State/Lake station is just one block away, as is the Red Line subway. We also walked to many tourist attractions and nearby restaurants/shopping. A couple of nights we brought in take-out for dinner. Loved the salads from Cosi! There is a Trader Joe's north of the river on Ontario, which was great for picking up staples like coffee and wine. Also, the 7-11 right across the street was where we stocked up on bottled waters and sodas. A few things to note: coffee filters are not provided for the coffeemaker, but a paper towel works just as well! Also, there were no extra trash bags (we used our shopping bags) or tissues provided. They did provide one packet of Tide detergent (which I used for the towels) and one packet of dishwasher detergent (but no liquid). Also, there was no soap for the showers (just hand soaps) and no hairdryer (we didn't pack ours, thinking there would be one). These were minor annoyances and we'd much rather NOT have maid service coming in on a daily basis anyway. They left us plenty of towels and I'm pretty sure we could have requested these other items if we got desperate. Oh, and the power went out for a few hours on our last night there, but it was a random problem and quickly resolved. I've included some pics, as words really don't do this place justice. Stay here and avoid the overpriced hotels!
