“Spacious and close to everything!”

My family (me, hubby, and two kids ages 20 and 17) just returned from a fabulous visit to Chicago. We booked our six-night stay at MDA Chicago City Apartments and couldn't have been more pleased. The staff at Leading Apartments was very helpful and -- for about the same price as a downtown hotel (there is no hotel/motel tax when you sign a short-term lease!) -- we enjoyed a spacious and chic 2 bed/2 bath apartment on the corner of Lake and Wabash with a full kitchen, lots of closet space, three flat-screen TVs, washer/dryer and many of the same amenities as a nice hotel (gym, rooftop garden, concierge in lobby, convenient downtown location, etc.). And did I mention the FREE wi-fi??? Yes, you do have to take out the trash (chute is near the stairwell on same floor), wash dishes (there is a full-size dishwasher!) and strip the beds and wash the towels when you leave, but the effort was minimal. Our corner apartment had a view of Trump Tower. The El tracks are noisy, even on the 14th floor, but we got used to it. We purchased 7-day CTA passes and rode the train and buses everywhere - even to/from the airport. We didn't have a car, but I think there is a garage across the street that residents can use. The State/Lake station is just one block away, as is the Red Line subway. We also walked to many tourist attractions and nearby restaurants/shopping. A couple of nights we brought in take-out for dinner. Loved the salads from Cosi! There is a Trader Joe's north of the river on Ontario, which was great for picking up staples like coffee and wine. Also, the 7-11 right across the street was where we stocked up on bottled waters and sodas. A few things to note: coffee filters are not provided for the coffeemaker, but a paper towel works just as well! Also, there were no extra trash bags (we used our shopping bags) or tissues provided. They did provide one packet of Tide detergent (which I used for the towels) and one packet of dishwasher detergent (but no liquid). Also, there was no soap for the showers (just hand soaps) and no hairdryer (we didn't pack ours, thinking there would be one). These were minor annoyances and we'd much rather NOT have maid service coming in on a daily basis anyway. They left us plenty of towels and I'm pretty sure we could have requested these other items if we got desperate. Oh, and the power went out for a few hours on our last night there, but it was a random problem and quickly resolved. I've included some pics, as words really don't do this place justice. Stay here and avoid the overpriced hotels!

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the less noise you'll hear from the train!

“Location location location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

Many good things and a few considerations. The location is great. Take train from Ohare or Midway to two blocks away and then walk everywhere. Building has great summer amenities on roof, BBQ, hot tub, game room, and dining. There is a theater for your DVDs that can be reserved, business room, and simple gym. We had a two bedroom apartment that was well equipped and allowed us to entertain.
We rented from Leading Apartments and had good communication with them.
We had a room on the corner where train turns and that was a big challenge for a country boy. Also mattress was shot in our room.

“Great place to stay while in Chicago”

We were in Chicago Sept 11th through 13th 2009 for a Cubs game and the U2 concert at Soldier Field. Four of us were traveling together and really enjoyed our stay. We found the MDA city apartments to be a perfect location and also very reasonably priced. We were on the 19th floor and had a two bedroom, two bath apartment. It was much better than the motel room alternatives we had researched. Lot's of room, very clean, beds were very comfortable. We especially appreciated the close proximity to Michigan avenue, less than a block, and access to many sights and sounds of Chicago. The rooftop is also a beautiful and peaceful place to hang out and talk while checking out the fantastics views of the city. We were all very pleased with the accomodations and will return on our next visit to Chicago.
Also - the architectural tour on the riverboat was very informative and enjoyable - we would recommend it. It really gives you a sense of the history and great perspective on how Chicago's amazing skyline came to be.

“Great Hotel Alternative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2009

My wife & 2 sons (16 & 13) recently spent a weekend at this location. Very nice accommodations. 2 bedrooms,2 baths, living room & kitchen in a very nice and conveniently located apartment building (60 Lake St.). Parking is located very nearby (20 E. Randolph St.) - just around the corner. Price for parking w/ voucher from MDA is less than 1/2 normal parking costs. For the price we paid, we had what amounted to a suite for much less than a 3 or 4 star hotel would charge + no tax. Very nice rooftop area (1st priortiy is given to permanent residents if they reserve it for any party, gathering, ect.) Great sitting area outside, w/ hot tub & nice inside area w/ pool table, t.v. ect. Very close to good dining, the River, Michigan Ave & the El trains(if you've never used the el before, learn how to get train tickets before putting money in self-serve kiosk - no change given). 7-11 & CVS drug stores very near. Full kitchen, so you can use it as much or as little as you want to. Next time we are in Chicago, we'll defintely book again.

“Better than a hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2009

We spent 5 nights at MDA and were very pleased with the accommodation. Our apartment was on the 18th floor with some nice views. We had a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment and it had a fully equipped kitchen as well. The apartment was very spacious and modern and it had everything we needed from hairdryer to wireless internet connection. The location of MDA apartments is just perfect, there were a lot of places to eat nearby (mainly fastfood, though), all the bus and "L" stops were max. couple of blocks away. Also the tourist information was quite near. From the MDA, you can basically walk to any sights near the centre of Chicago (if you like walking).

There were a couple of things that could bother some travellers, but we didn't see these as major issues. Even though our windows weren't above the "L", I could still hear the sound of the trains and it was somewhat disturbing when trying to sleep. But use earplugs and you'll have no trouble getting sleep. There weren't any noises coming from the neighbouring apartments, but you could hear some noise from the hallway, because there was quite a big gap under the door. The other bedroom had fairly a poor mattress in the bed, but in the other room the bed was comfortable with a firm mattress, so it wasn't really a problem for us.

This accommodation is way better than a hotel room, there is a lot of space, big bathrooms, quite modern interior, big kitchen and so on. MDA doesn't offer breakfast or other usual hotel amenities but we didn't need any of them, we ate some cereals in the morning and then headed to a cafe to grab a coffee and something delicious to eat before exploring the city. We paid about 130 euros per night (booked through ebookers), and there were very few hotel rooms (1-bedroom) available at the time of booking at the same price. I do recommend MDA to anyone going to Chicago.
