“I love the 70's!”

Just not in a hotel's decor. Our room looks like a Holiday Inn from 1975. And the people who work here are not at all helpful. My wife came in the front door with a bunch of bags that she was struggling to carry, and three guys sat around watching. When she later asked if there was a restaurant they recommended for lunch, she was met with a blank stare. For the price of admission, there are hundreds of better hotels in Chicago.

“Large, clean luxury hotel room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2011

Stayed here with business collegues for a business conference near end of May for a few nights. Hotel is business casual dress. Beautiful LARGE hotel room with large bathroom, vanity and chair to apply makeup in bright light. I have attached photos so you can see what the room looks like now. This is a private club with just 60 hotel rooms, on floors 8, 9 and 10 We stayed on floor 10 and it was quiet at night. Drink vending machine and ice is on each floor at end of hall. Beds are very firm but pillows were very nice. Large tub in bathroom. Alot of closet space and lingerie/clothes drawers and place for luggage in the closet so it is out of sight if you have guests in the room. Large desk area and lots of chairs as well. Towels were very plush and soft. Loved the little soaps they give you in the bathroom. Hotel is in a great location and we walked to the restaurants each day. Staff was very nice and helpful.

“Too strange for words.”

I don't want to be mean, but this place was just so odd and irritating that it moved me to write my first ever Trip Advisor review!
It's supposedly some kind of athletic club, tho I didn't get it...and Sunday - the one day we actaully planned to use the gym - it was CLOSED! What is that?! And what's the deal with the dress code? This place is not anywhere near fancy-schmancy enough to warrant a dress code. Puh-lease!
And as a woman, I found the room's bathroom quite irritating - there was no place to put my stuff! Even tho the room was relatively large, it had a pedestal sink that was just slanted enough that nothing stayed. And so they had a little glass slef - except that was slanted, too - everything rolled off! And the toilet was next to sink, but since there was no seat cover, I couldn't really put stuff there either, for fear of falling into (public) toilet - ew! But hey - thanks for the magnifying mirror at hip height, even though there was no chair in site (odd)!
Also, the concierge desk seemed to be staffed with people who didn't know the area? Really?
Location: is was reasonably close to points of interest, but the exact block it was on was slightly scary and rundown.
On the plus side, the bed was comfy enough, and they had extra pillows in the room.

“A decent place to stay, but with a dress code!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

I stayed here two nights for a conference. I didn't realize the standard club was actually a club and not a hotel. Since it was a club, it did not have many of the standard hotel amenties. No business center (from what I could tell) and no hallway ice/sode machine. Rooms were large- bed was huge. Bathroom was nice as well, although you can tell that it was little dated. My bathroom was missing shampoo. I called housekeeping twice and the front desk between the hours of 7am -715. Finally someone from the valent picked up and brought me shampoo. (promptly). I was a bit disappointed that the gym facilities were closed at 8pm. I like to work out in the evening. ON the plus side, the staff was very friendly. Parking is valent only- $35 a night. The standard club is located across the street from john marshall. The dearborn side of the hotel is fine; i would not walk down the plymouth side alone at night. One thing that surprised me was that the hotel had a dress code. Thus, I could not duck into the restaurant for a quick bite in my jeans or loiter in the lobby. On the plus side, the hotel was very quiet.
