This property did not live up to the marketing discription promoted on their web site. Lounge was under construction and I felt I shouyld have known that information prior to booking. Guest reception was held in a room that gave the appearance of a storage closet and was far too small to hold the number of attendees. Many small inconviences. Front desk failed to answer calls. Property was very nice and a good location, but will not make a return visit.
I'm always happy to stay there, and the friends that I've recommended it to have enjoyed it too. The check-in is very friendly, maybe because they are sitting down at desks instead of standing on aching feet all day. The front desk also provides helpful and knowledgeable concierge service. The highlight of the hotel for me is its nightly happy hour, which features an excellent antipasto bar and a variety of beers and wines. The complimentary breakfast is also quite nice, since it is set up on each floor, although I would appreciate some more lower-carb options, like a wider variety of unsweetened cereals. Personally, during four separate stays, my room has always been quiet and comfortable, but reading the other reviews, I suppose you have to be careful about the garbage truck and alley noises. Again, I've never run it that problem myself. The location is ideal, within walking distance of quite a few destination restaurants. No pool, but the exercise room is great.
My sister and I were looking for something special to do for our Mom's 70th birthday. We flew her 4 sisters in from New York and got 2 rooms at the Amalfi! Everything was great from the time we got there. The staff are super friendly, Greg and Jose especially! They sent a complimentary bottle of champagne up the first night for my Mom. The continental breakfast set up by the elevator on each floor was a great way to start each morning. The cocktail hour at night was very crowded, likely due to the fact that thier usual room for this is currently under construction. The queen size beds in each room were a nice change from the standard double beds that every other hotel seems to have today. The only down side was we would have liked a place to be able to go and hang out together as there were 7 of us and it was pretty crowded trying to get us to all spend time together in one of our rooms. It was a short 5 minute walk to the Magnificent Mile. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
My family stayed here in Feb 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Continental breakfast was convenient, just outside our room. My only minor complaint was the coffee at the breakfast was not great, but not a big deal. We didn't notice any noise from the hallways, adjoining rooms. Great location, close to lots of restaurants, shopping and other tourist attractions. The hotel gave us a coupon for a discount off the cover at Andy's Jazz club which is just around the corner. Staff were friendly, relaxed and helpful. I would happily return to this hotel if we return to Chicago or recommend it to family and friends.
