Ever seen one of those movies with the flickering bathroom light as the rock bottom heroine addict shoots up one last time before dying with the hose still wrapped around his arm? I think they shoot all those scenes at the Sheffield House. Before booking your room, call your doctor and give him a heads up that you'll be needing a hepatitis screening once you get home.

If you're lucky enough to get sheets on your bed, they will have some combination of holes, stains, and bed bugs.

The shower is either warm with a weak stream or freezing cold with some pressure, take your pick. And bring your own towel.

The outside of the hotel is literally lit up with red lights...never a good sign.

The staff is awful.

Basically, if you value your health, stay anywhere else in the city and pay for the cab ride to Wrigley. It's not worth it even for the low cost.

bath yellow, bath door not shutting, no phone, blinds falling off window, bed made, but underneath stains (fresh) as per the crumbs of food also there, floor dirty, no pictures on wall, smelly, towels folded wet ... agreed to a new room and manager refused ... we left and they did not refund our money at $80 a night ... manager not dressed professionally and scary looking ... and willing to let me and my 68 year old mother leave at 10 pm at night with no other accommodations and kept our money ... elevator permit not posted and elevator not level with floor ... business license not to be found ... scary and disgusting and unclean and didn't care

When I first arrived at the Sheffield House I was in awe of its superb location and it's charming characteristics. I walked in to an extrememly pleasant woman at the front desk. Although she sounded like "Ma" from Ma's Roudhouse, I didn't mind. I found it pleasurable. She escorted me to a lovely little room which I found to be tantalizing and exquisite. Nothing too fancy or over the top, but humble and cozy. The kind of place you would take your streetwalker on a Saturday night. I guess the best word to describe THe Sheffield House is. Eloquence. Plain and Simple. I would recommend this to everyone.

This place was horrifying. My girlfriend and I were traveling to chicago on short notice to catch a cubs game. This happened to be the only place that had available space. We struggled to find parking upon our arrival and when we asked the lady at the front desk she said we had to talk to "someone" down the street to get a permit...turns out the "place" we were told to go was an empty building. Not a big deal. When we check in the lady at the front desk shows us to the filthiest room I've ever seen in my life and the A/C didn't work. The lady attempted to plug it in to a different socket to no avail. She actually asked ME to move the dresser to give her access to the socket. Wow. She takes us to a different room...same filth. The bathroom door didn't close all the way, the toilet ran ALL NIGHT, the shower wasn't fit for humans, and the TV remote didn't work, not properly anyway. The entire place smelled of sweat and cigarettes. On the bright side, its close to Wrigley. There...I said something nice. If you must stay in Chicago consider sleeping in your car or the street rather than this place.
