The Abode is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, where there are very few hotel options, so I have occasionally stayed at the Abode despite its high prices. It is important to realize that Abode is not a full service hotel and not even a B&B. What you get for your money is the ability to enter the house and your rooms. There is no one on the premises and any problems have to be settled by telephone with the owner located somewhere else. So not a great experience, but I recently had a worse one. I booked a room for one night online and gave a deposit. Sometime later I received a message from the owner saying that she had been unable to make her online site reflect her policy of a two night minimum and so she was returning my deposit. Needless to say, it was by then too late to book elsewhere. But while Hyde Park is geographically isolated, there are express buses running frequently from downtown. My advice is to book a room in a full service hotel downtown for less and take the bus.
