“Plush old style hotel downtown Chicago”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Travelling on businesses after a long flight The Whitehall Hotel was very welcoming and extremely well located downtown. Fabulous greeting at the door by the Concierge Team and easy check in and up to a very comfortable room, although a little tired.

Could not fault the service at all and everyone very friendly. I did not dine at the hotel as there was a myriad of options locally. Only 50 metres from Michigan Ave and very close to North Rush Street there is plenty to do.

The room was cleaned daily and looked after very well. The internet broadband connection was very slow and very expensive. Overall a good experience, but I would not recommend for families.

“Great Groupon Deal!”

For 99.00 a night I thought the hotel was great! Our room was on the 4th floor and was clean. The bed was crazy awesome. Big and comfy. The staff was nice and helped us out with whatever we needed. The elevators are small but not a big deal. Super close to shopping on Michigan Ave. The Asian restaurant off the lobby was so good. Get the sampler platter. 15.00 for small plates and a glass or wine or a soda. It was a deal all around.

“Comfort & Joy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Greatest bed ever -- immersion between layers of the puffiest down is a sensation to be savored. Sort of like being in your own personal cocoon. Not one, but two side chairs, are actually soft comfortable places to sit and have a long conversation. The lobby is a little dim and disjointed, at odds with the splendid accommodations beyond. This hotel is a treasure with more to offer for a pleasant, memorable stay than many of it's neighbors in the heart of Chicago's Gold Coast.

“Great location and price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We booked The Whitehall through hotwire for less than $100 for a Saturday night. Upon arrival we liked the boutique style. Cecilia at the front desk was very nice and was able to give us a room with a great view from the top floor. The elevators are definitely small as another reviewer noted but we had no issues with waiting for too long. I did find it odd that there was no ice machine or vending. My fiance had gone to look for an ice machine and ran into the bellman who explained that they had to bring ice up. My fiance rode down to the lobby and waited for him to get the ice. As he got back onto the elevator and said "thank you" he heard the bellman mumble a sarcastic "yeah, you too" which was our only negative. I think it's a bit ridiculous to expect a tip when most hotels provide guest access to ice AND the bellman did not have to bring it to the room. However, we loved the room and had a great experience so I won't let one cranky staff member affect my opinion of the hotel. I would definitely go back and found the location to be perfect for shopping (right by water tower place) even though we didn't have time for that this particular trip. Bed was super comfortable. Coffee in the lobby was nice as we didn't have to deal with a tiny in room coffee maker and were able to fill our to go mugs for the drive home!

“Boutique hotel in perfect downtown location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

This hotel is neat because it's a historic hotel and has that old-world feel similar to the Adolphus in Dallas. The staff is friendly and the rooms are generously sized for a downtown hotel in a large city--plenty of sitting area and large bathrooms. The location is perfect for downtown shopping and close access to public transportation like the buses or subway. It's also very close to lots of restaurants like Ditka's (yes, as in the famed Chicago Bears coach), Dublin's Irish pub, Lou Mannati's (excellent deep dish pizza), Ralph Lauren grill, Hugo's Frog Bar, Pippin's, etc. We walked everywhere comfortably or bought cheap bus passes to go further since it was pretty cold. My only complaint of the hotel is it looks a tiny bit tired and the walls are super thin so you can hear sex, conversations, radio in your neighbor's rooms. We didn't have major issues but could hear lots in the daytime. Overall, a good choice in a moderate price range. I have no regrets!
