“Very nice hotel, would stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I stayed here with my partner while holidaying in Chicago. We really liked the hotel and would stay again no questions asked.

The hotel is located just a block or so south of the loop and this for us was the perfect location. Allowing us easy access to public transport and get around the city.

The hotel itself is very nicely done and they obviously take care of it as they were repainting some areas when we were there. The rooms were a nice size, with big beds and well looked after. Cleanliness was always perfect and there were no issues here.

We did not really use any of the facilities in the hotel, so we can't comment on this but the staff were alwasy very friendly and very helpful with all our minor requests and overall gave a very positive impression.

The only negative points were the amount of light in our room and the noise from outside. Our room just had a single narrow window that did not let in hardly any natural light, also due to the building across the alley blocking most of it, and the lighting in the room also could have been better. Also, our room was located opposite the air conditioning and heating vents from a large office building which was quite noisy.

These really are the only thinks stopping this being a 5 star review, as the rest of the hotel was very good.

“Beautiful hotel but our room wasn't clean.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We stayed here for a couple of nights right at Christmas. The room itself was beautifully decorated and large. Unfortunately the room was not cleaned very well., There was hair in the shower, and more hair on the bathroom floor, the nightstands were very dusty and there were a few small objects on the carpet that should have been vacuumed up. I was so disgusted that I had to wear shoes at all times and even wore some old crocs in the shower!
We got a discounted rate on the room due to a family connection with Wyndam so we didn't feel right about complaining but we really should have.

“Nice People, Nice Appearance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Although it's a chain, this hotel acts a bit more like a boutique hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. My room was nicely decorated and rather large, and the bed was dreamily comfortable. (5 stars for the bed!) There were a few glitches in my experience, some more important than others, depending on one's needs. If you need high speed internet, find another hotel. The WiFi here was maddeningly slow for the entire 2 1/2 weeks I stayed. Had I not prepaid at a great rate, I would have checked out and gone elsewhere simply for that. I ended up using my 4G phone as my personal WiFi hotspot to get anything done. Don't expect to have the bandwidth to Skype even voice conversations. Although I had excellent signal from two of the hotel's WiFi nodes, the service was abysmal. As mentioned elsewhere here, the showers are poorly designed and you inevitably end up with minor floods on the bathroom floor. The heating worked well, but the thermostat would not actually maintain a temperature. No matter how you set it, the thing would run constantly until the place got too hot. The, the only solution was to turn it off for a while. I like sleeping in a cool room, so turning it off just before bed worked out well for me. The "daily newspaper" is only available in the lobby, and only Mon-Fri (USA Today.) They always seemed to have a good supply, though, since there were still papers available when I returned after 5 pm. But there is nothing on weekends....so "daily" is a bit of a misnomer. Looked at the menu for the hotel restaurant...YIKES! Prices are outrageous. Obviously an upscale establishment. But, the location is within blocks of several colleges and universities, so there are plenty of places in short walking distance to eat at much better prices than the hotel venue.

Room Tip: The hotel is constructed from the combination of two buildings whose floors are not quite evenly mat...

“Very nice hotel”

I stayed here as part of a group for a trade show in Jan 2012. The hotel was very nice, however we were unable to get an early check-in. We had arrived from O'Hare at about noon, but our rooms would not be ready until 3. The hotel did store our bags at no cost until our rooms were ready.

My room on the 11th floor was comfortable and larger than standard double rooms I have encountered. The bathroom was also a very nice size, and had been upgraded recently. There is an El stop nearby the hotel, about two or three blocks. There is a 7/11, a Chase bank, a Starbucks, and a Potbellies sandwich shop on the same block as the hotel.

I ate breakfast twice at the attached restaurant, and was very impressed with the healthy options. I had granola w/ greek yogurt one morning, and steel cut oatmeal w/ dried fruit the next. Overall, I was very impressed with this hotel.

“Great hotel, fair location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

The hotel was very nice, well maintained, clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. The baths were beautiful, although as others have commented, if the glass wall had been built a foot wider there wouldn't be any splash problems. However, only a tiny amount of water escaped. The rooms on the back (west) side were very quiet, although you just have a view of the wall of the adjoining property. Overall I'd probably have given the hotel five stars, but it's location was only fair. It's a good walk to most attractions--20-30 minutes to the Field, another five to the Shedd and another five to the Adler Planetarium. The Art Institute is probably the closest, about 15 minutes away at a brisk pace. Navy Pier and the shopping on N. Michigan are at least 30 minutes walk away. I don't mind a lot of walking, but most will spend some cab money, especially going out for dinner in the evening. The red line subway at the nearby Jackson stop on State Street is the quickest, most reasonable way to get to N. Michigan.

Room Tip: Ask for the back for the quietest rooms.
