Phenominal lobby and common spaces. The room was spotless, as was the bathroom, but the fixtures in the bathroom were pretty dated. Overall a great stay.

We stayed at The Palmer House (a Hilton property) over a long week in February.
The classic hotel was the perfect spot to see the sights of downtown Chicago.
The historic hotel has been beautifully restored. The lobby is amazing and worth a visit by itself. Our stay was on the Executive Floor and all the amenities expected were there.
The Executive Lounge provided a bountiful breakfast buffet. Snacks and beverages were avaiable throughout the day with a "cocktail hour appetizer buffet" from 5:00 to 7:00.

The rooms though a little small, were very comfortable and fit the historic decor of the hotel.
Service was excellent!
The location is ideal for exploring the Loop area and is two blocks from Michigan Ave and the Art Institute. There are restaurants within the hotel and within easy walking distant. Two nearby recommened restaurants are Miller's Pub and Berghoff both serve hearty meals in a beer house/pub atmosphere.

Although a little pricey, I highly recommend staying at the Palmer House for a truely old-time Chicago experience.

A grand old building with a very impressive lobby area, unfortunately, this hotel lacked all the details. Where to start? As expected with an older hotel, rooms were sometimes of a funky layout with cramped bathrooms. That much I understand. But why would you put the only shelf in the bath above the toilet (don't drop anything!) or put the toilet paper holder at a position right where your knee would hit when "sitting on the throne" thus requiring one to sit at a 45 degree angle on the toilet? Water pressure stunk. Want to work in for dinner and order room service? The room service menu for dinner is ridiculous. A few sandwiches and pizzas. Hallway floors were seldom clean. I would see food that had fallen off of plates on the floor in the morning then would still be there in the late afternoon when I returned. Oh yeah -- they charge you $10 to use the gym (which is okay but no great shakes).

Stayed here for my son's auditions. It is a beautiful classic hotel. Old hotels can have small rooms, but I was pleasantly surprised at ours. The lobby is amazing. The hotel is VERY big and hosts a lot of groups/conferences. But you don't notice it much. Read the traveler tips. State street side can be noisy from the L trains. Middle and other sides are fine. Being that close to the loop trains and the red line on the other side makes it easy to get all around town without as much walking or cabs. You can buy passes at the CVS on the corner (either corner!)
