We came down for a wedding and stayed Thursday and Friday. The lodge seems busy on weekends. Thursday was awesome because nobody was beside us in the other side of the duplex. I think we may have been one of the only people renting at all on Thursday and it was quiet and peaceful.
I initially thought that I would be completely unimpressed with looking out over a river but I have to say the view and experience was amazing. Something about a slow meandering river was unbelievably relaxing. The hills and sunsets added to the wonderful views. It was wonderful. We happened to be there when it was perfect weather and we kept the door to the balcony opened all night. The silence (other than a very occasional slow moving barge) was extremely relaxing. Far better than I imagined it would be.
The Adirondack chairs were excellent and well liked but the way the balcony is made, you can not see much when you sit. There is a huge board (part of the balcony) blocking the view as you sit and try to soak it all in. All you can see is the immediate grass below and the sky above but the river and hills are unseen. If I could have found a way to raise the chairs a foot or so, it would have been heaven. There is a huge picture window facing the river so the views from the room were stunning.
TV is a joke. Our screen must have been 13" or so. It was laughably small. To be honest, you don't go there to watch tv though. However, you will be disappointed if you like to watch a little TV before bed or something. They had the Dish network.
OK, now to the walls. Friday night rolled around and the cars started backing in. It was actually uncomfortable with people next to you. You could literally hear every word, conversation, noise, tv station, etc. that was being done. This made us very self conscious and diminished our stay. I think most of the noise was coming from the door that adjoined the rooms. If they would just take out that door and insulate and put the wall there, I think it would help quite a bit.
Other tidbits:
Kitchenette was adequate. No stove. Small fridge, and microwave, sink, and small coffee pot. No plates or silverware or anything like that. Nice table for eating. Go to Marion, KY for groceries (about 20 mins away).
No hard line phones and cell reception is pretty non existent for most carriers. The restaurant claims to have wi-fi but I never checked it out.
Bathroom was toilet+bath then a door and then a sink. So the sink and counter were separate from the toilet and bath (nice for people doing hair, etc).
No iron/ironing board (not great for suitcase stuffed clothes!)
The coffee packet they leave for you is horrid.
They have weird signs saying not to use your towels for drying your car or motorcycle....didn't know that was a common occurrence for hotels but while it is good to minimalize losses, putting those signs up was odd. Loss of towels is common for hotel industries.
At times the staff seemed resentful and bothered by customers....weird!
All in all we loved it but the fact of next-door neighbors (who were older and actually quiet) is a deal breaker in a place like that. I would go back if I knew we were the only ones in the duplex. If not, I would be hard-pressed to go back. I can't imagine there being kids next door! It would have been miserable. So, my advise is if you are going for pleasure, make sure no one is next to you (book on weekdays).
