“The Longer You Stay the More You Pay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I originally had a pretty good review about this budget long term hotel. All good things must come to an end. My wife and I have been here on business since September 2011. Extended Stays moto is "The Longer You Stay The Less You Pay". We were told we were getting picked out in December without haveing the opportunity to renew. Corporate saw the errors of there ways and were were allowed to stay. Our rate went up $100 a month. "The Longer You Stay The Less You Pay???? That's there Motto, therefore their contract with us. Here it is January 2012. "The Longer You Stay the Less You Pay". We just got a memo from the Hote Manager, Margarita Logan, 25 January 2012 stating that she is eliminating the 30 day long term lodging contract and increasing the rate again to $863.70. "The Longer You Stay The Less You Pay." Do yourselves a favor and get an apartment if you plan to stay more than 30 days. If you get a roommate you'll save yourselves about half what you'll pay at this Extended Stay America. They have the worst Television selection I've ever seen, no exercise facilities and your woken up 5 in the morning by the trash trucks dumping the dumpsters at the Berger King next door. Spend the extra $20 bucks a day and get a free breakfast, pool and workout facilities. WE ARE OUT OF HERE. THANKS FOR YOUR BROKEN PROMISES EXTENDED STAY!!!!

Room Tip: Used to be a good value. If your hardup for a place for a short time and you don't care about am...

“Bare Bones But Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

If your looking for a free breakfast, pool or workout room this isn't the place for you. If you looking for a clean room at a very reasonable rate, friendly staff and every eatery and shopping convience close, this is the place for you. The daily rates are reasonable and the extended rate can't be gotten anywhere in the Bloomington-Normal area. My wife and I have been here for four (4) weeks with our two dogs and have been as confortable as we could expect. The management jumps on any issues you migh have. We had a noisy refrigerator that was replaced within an hour. Great housekeeping and front desk staff. Can't beat it for the price and convience. Ask for Hilary, She's the one with the big smile.

Room Tip: Call ahead. I like the rooms on the end. Easy access to the parking lot.

“Didn't Stay - Bug”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

During our inspection of the room, we noticed an insect on the wall. My wife (who is experienced with insect taxonomy) identified it as a bedbug. We left immediately.

On the way out, I asked the desk clerk to refund our room charge. He said he couldn't, but the manager would have to handle it. I asked that the manager please call me. I did not receive a call from the manager, but our credit card was not charged.

On a side note, this hotel's entrance was really difficult to find. Its driveway is between two unrelated properties, and it's really easy to miss.

Room Tip: Be sure to check for unwanted visitors before bringing your bags in.

"I recently received a copy of your review of the Extended Stay America Bloomington - Normal. Our company prides itself on providing great service and great rooms at great rates, which is why I was so disappointed to read your post. Please accept my most sincere apologies.

We know that our guests have multiple hotel choices, which is why our mission is to provide clean, comfortable rooms at an affordable price that guests want to come back to. The room condition you describe is totally unacceptable to me and not at all representative of our quality standards. In response to your post, I have met with our hotel staff and used your review to help coach them on room cleaning and inspection policy.

It's not common that we get the sort of feedback you provided, and although it is discouraging to read, it will help us make our hotel even better in the future. Let me apologize again that your stay was not completely satisfying, and assure you that we will continue to listen to our guests in forums like this one or directly (please visit our website and click the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page). I hope we have addressed your concern satisfactorily, and that you would give us the pleasure of having you as a guest again at this hotel or any other Extended Stay Hotels(sm) brand location in the future."

“Excellent value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

Reserved 2 kitchenettes 8/5/11 to 8/7/11. Both rooms were clean and the kitchen had all the comforts of home (utensils, pot, skillet, plates, etc.). Got a good night sleep each night. Food was ordered from the local pizza palor. Staff was friendly and check-in / check-out was a breeze. We will be back!

"It was very kind of you to for take the time to publish such a positive review of your stay at the Extended Stay America Champaign - Urbana. It's always satisfying to read positive feedback from our valued guests, like you. Although some companies run extravagant advertising campaigns for their hotels, we believe that the best kind of marketing is the public praise we get from our millions of happy customers. That's why the biggest investment we make is in our customers. Our company motto is ""Excellence Every Day, Every Way"", and my promise to you is that we will continue to operate according to this practice; after all, that's how Extended Stay Hotels(sm) got to be the largest extended stay lodging brand in North America.

It would, of course, be our pleasure for you to repeat your experience with us in the future. Thank you once again, and feel free to reach out to us directly if we can assist you in any of your future travels."

“In serious need of remodeling”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

But I guess for the price they charge they can't afford a remodel. Extended Stays are designed for weekly tenants, not vacationers looking for a couple of nights' stay. That is why there is no pool and no daily housekeeping. However, we were able to drop off our soiled towels and pick up clean towels on demand.

The carpets throughout the hotel are terrible, especially in the hallways. The carpet in our room had sticky spots. The carpets just need torn up and replaced. The curtain rod fell off the first time we touched it. I was able to fix it and I swear it was intentionally loosened. The recliner did not work, and the springs were shot. The TV was a tiny 19" tube, but there is two free Showtime channels. The bathroom is large and overall the room is not cramped. There is no blow dryer so you better bring one. The beds were marginally comfortable.

The "full" kitchen is not full. NO oven; only a stovetop. There is a microwave and a full refrigerator. There is only two plates, two bowls, two forks, two spoons, etc. so be prepared to wash dishes after every meal. There are some cooking utensils. There is a 4 cup coffee maker (ours worked but obviously had seen better days) and a toaster.

Just about every staff person was friendly and helpful with only some random annoying surliness. Everyone was helpful and responsive. And the room was very clean when we checked in. Also, the HVAC vent covers in the hallways were clean. It's little things like that that say a lot about a place.

The wifi is not free. The base cost is $5 per stay (no matter how long) and you can upgrade to higher speeds at a considerable extra cost. If all you want is e-mail and to surf you are fine with the base service.

The third floor is a smoking floor. Avoid it at all costs. We did not go up there, but one of the families in our party got stuck with a room up there and they said it was horrid - unless your a smoker, of course.

The location is close to shopping (Eastland Mall just a few miles away) and restaurants. You are also close to downtown Bloomington, uptown Normal and Illinois State. But then, it's easy to get anywhere in the area within 20 minutes.

This could be a great property if it was remodeled. Also, as another reviewer noted, there is South and North Veterans Parkways on the opposite sides of town, and the hotel does not have a direct entrance to Veteran's Parkway. You have to turn at the nearest stoplight and come in to the property from an access road. It's easy once you get used to it.

If you just want a couple of nights, go elsewhere, but if you are staying for a week (we were here for a week-long softball tournament) the use of the kitchenette is very handy.

Room Tip: Non-smokers should avoid the third floor

"I recently received a copy of your review of the Extended Stay America Champaign - Urbana. Our company prides itself on excellent guest service, so it was gratifying to read your feedback about our staff. I would like to give you my most heartfelt apology regarding the part of your stay that was not satisfactory.

We specialize in providing clean, comfortable rooms at an affordable price. That means we don't set out extra amenities like shampoo, lotions, shower caps, etc, in our rooms. However, our hotel does have a limited supply of sundries at the front desk, and we happily dispense them free of charge upon request. Operating in this way allows us to continue to provide you our great rooms at exceptional rates. I take seriously your concern, however, and assure you that we work very hard to explain exactly what we offer to our guests before they arrive. I am, of course, very sorry that we were unable to make our offerings more clear to you before you checked in, and hope that you will keep our hotel in mind when your future needs are for an accommodation like ours.

It's not common that we get the sort of feedback you provided, and although it is discouraging to read, it will help us make our hotel even better in the future.
