What you are paying for is the setting, peaceful and reflective.

Very good restaurant across the driveway from the hotel, also part of the Shrine facility.

Really friendly staff. Room fairly simple, but very clean and comfortable. Nice breakfast area, included with room. Grounds and shrine area are beautiful and peaceful. Close to the city of St Louis, but you need a car to get there. I liked because it's peaceful and a good retreat from city bustle.

I was on my way to Carbondale. My wife wanted to stay at the Shrine to do a silent retreat. I went on to Carbondale the next day for a meeting, rested and ready to go. She made her retreat. We had dinner when I got back.

The room was excellent. The hotel had a special two nights for $70.00. The food superb. We overheard visitors rave about the buffets. Some came from as far as St. Louis just for the food ! We are going back March 29-31st. I travel widely. The rooms at the shrine are $99.00 rooms anywhere else. But the spiritual setting, the personnel, all add to a relaxing, out-of- this-world experience. This will be our third stay. I am encouraginf my friend in northern Illinois to take the time to visit and worship at the Shrine.

We stayed at the Shrine Hotel for three days this August. We found it to be very comfortable, clean, and quiet. The front desk personnel were extremely helpful with directions to attractions in the area, such as Cohokia Mounds. The breakfast provided a wide choice of foods from cereal to sweet rolls, from juice to coffee. The beds were very comfortable and the quiet atmosphere made for a quiet night's rest. The restaurant had a good choice of meals at a reasonable price. The various shrines on the grounds were well kept and worth visiting. The hotel personnel allowed us to leave one of our cars on the grounds for several days while we traveled north. It was found in perfect condition upon our return. We then stayed an additional night before leaving for home. Again, we had a safe and peaceful place to stay. It reminded us of a Bed and breakfast rather then a hotel.
Will we stay again? Definitely!
