“Nice hotel on the lakeside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

We arrived at Edgewater, Sandpoint tired and with a little trepadation as most recent reviews had commented on the musty smells. Whilst it's true there was a slight foisty smell in our room, there were workman on site attending to the issue and the smell was only initially noticeable.

Our room was very spacious, although the bathroom less so but we had terrific views over the lake and a small balcony to sit out on if the weather had been better. We made full use of the pool, spa and sauna and this was lovely and refreshing. We ate out on the evening although we understand the adjacent restaurant has a good reputation with locals.
Due to it's location and ease of parking etc would not hesitate in staying here again.

“pet friendly, food friendly, view friendly hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

We ended up unexpectedly in Sandpoint on a Saturday afternoon with no hotel reservations, two dogs, and a 93 year old who was fading fast. The Best Western Edgewater had the last pet room in town and although it was more than we usually spend (LaQuinta is a great deal for dog travelers), we took it. The room was on the ground floor on the wing farthest from the lobby with a small patio overlooking the marina, bay and mountains. The sliding doors opened to a large grass area where my normally aloof Maltese fell madly in love with Charlie the Canadian Westie next door. Super easy early morning and late night constitutionals for the beasts from this room.

The best part of our stay (besides the view and warm water swimming in the lake) was the amazing food from the restaurant. We ordered room service twice and ate on the patio watching the moon rise over the sailboats. I like to cook, and resent paying for expensive meals unless it's better than what I can make at home. We had Portuguese Clams and a shredded pork burrito with a mole-syle sauce, both of which were fantastic, and crawfish chowder that, seriously, I would consider driving six hours back there to have again. Amazing flavors. There are also other great restaurants within walking distance.

I am extremely sensitive to mold and musty rooms so I was apprehensive about staying here because of other reviews, but our particular room had no problem with this. A/C worked fine, it was 90 degrees outside, and I like rooms cool. One potential problem for this set of ground floor rooms (a floor below the main parking area) is no elevator to take suitcases up and down. You have to carry them on the stairs. This meant I had to carry my Dad's oxygen concentrator machine which was a bit of an ordeal. I didn't hear the trains, but that's probably because the oxygen concentrator is louder than anything BNSF could send by.

For us, the dog friendly space, the great food and the stunning view made up for the other inconveniences.

“Second time was NOT the charm”

I stayed here twice within a 4-day span. The first time, I asked for another room as the one they'd placed me in smelled horribly musty and dirty. They gave me a room that smelled better, although it was as if someone had sprayed the room with fragrance or had hidden an air freshener. The next time, I got another musty smelling room. I couldn't even open the sliding door for fresh air because there are no screens....seriously?? They've got a beautiful location here but the place is a dump. If you don't care about the view, stay at La Quinta. It's a much better value and breakfast is included.

“Picked for lake view and park location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

Beautiful view out patio, wonderful walk around marina and park. But be aware of train tracks on other side of building. We didn't hear them hardly with patio doors closed, and the freight trains run nearly every half hours 24 hrs/day. We agree with a/c noise and warmth of room of past review. No continental breakfast, but we met up w/ a friend at Connie's Cafe in town (Ricks' Special for those that love country potatoes with bacon, cheese, onions and eggs). Warning: highway work is currently under way next to the tracks on a bypass main road outside of town so the area may be even noisier when completed. Right now, all traffic goes thru town so makes for very noisy tourist shop sightseeing and talking. The bypass will make for a more peacefull town center, but bad for BW hotel guests. Free public computers at reception area.

Room Tip: We were on second floor so nice view of lake and sun/moon rise. Wonder if first floor would be less...
