I have stayed, with my family, at the AmericInn a number of times. We have always enjoyed the clean rooms, good breakfast, and pool area. This particular visit, though, was disastrous for me. I was with my teenage daughters, who enjoyed the hot tub, while I swam laps in the pool. After a few minutes in the pool, my eyes started burning, so I got out, when to my room, washed my face, then showered. I couldn't stop my eyes from burning. They just kept getting worse. Hardly able to see, I made my way to the front desk. The clerk took me to her emergency eye-wash station, but couldn't get it to work, so she gave me a bottle of eye-flush solution, but it did little good. I told her she needed to check the chlorine levels in the pool. She said they were monitored automatically, and should be fine.
There was no apology, or admitting of wrong-doing in regard to the pool.
I know it wasn't an allergic reaction on my part, as I have never had a problem before or since, swimming in pools with chlorine.
My eyes kept getting worse, and I couldn't keep them open enough even to dial my cell phone, let alone drive to a doctor. I went to bed, in extreme pain, hoping they would be better in the morning, so I could drive home.
My eyes were somewhat better in the morning. They were still red and painful, but I was able to see.
When I received an e-mail from AmericInn asking how my stay was, I explained what had happened. I thought there would at least be an apology, but there was never any response. I assume they don't want to take responsibility for their extremely high levels of chlorine in the pool, and don't care what happens to their guests.
We will never stay at the AmericInn again.
