“Pleasantly Surprised. my new spot in Pocatello”

What a gr8 Place! The Desk staffer Jarod, was very nice, helpful and respectful. When i got there he was cleaning Venitian blinds and acknowledged me cheerfully and immediately. I was swiftly checked in and we chatted about local restaurants. see my review on the Sand Piper next door, good and bad. My Room looked like it was brand new. Crisp bedding, new TV etc. Also I appreciate the Safe, Micro Wave, and Refridgerator. I stay in a lot of hotels, sometimes even Super 8's but this was really the first time in a while that I was extremely pleased. The heater was quiet, comfortable recliner, wifi, curved shower curtain, I had a hard time finding anything wrong. Maybe my only question would be "How tall was the Plumber that put in the Shower Head?" I am not tall, 5'9" but I felt like Guliver in the shower, the Head is about 5' up the wall. The Breakfast situation was good, make your own Sausage Egg McMuffins, ceareal, coffee etc. Check out was a breeze, there is a convevience store in easy walking distance just $56- a great deal. I am a 53 year old Snowbird, so I drive PHX to Spokane twice every , I will start staying here for certain!

My parents live in Pocatello and unless we want to sleep on an air mattress on the living room floor, we often stay in hotels here. Our favorite is the Hampton Inn, followed by the Ameritel and Red Lion. This trip we decided to go a bit more budget. When I made this reservation we could have stayed at the Red Lion for three dollars more a night but would have had to pay $10.00 a day for breakfast. We decided to make our reservation here and honestly thought it was the Comfort Inn (where we've stayed before too).

The hotel looks like it was designed and built by hillbillies and the hall carpets were the filthiest and most worn I have ever seen at any hotel/motel. We weren't expecting much from a Super 8 but would it hurt to clean the hall carpets? We were relieved and surprised to see that the rooms were alright. They were clean. I've never seen cheaper furniture in a motel either but hey the plasma TV was new and worked great with lots of channels. The bed was comfortable enough and I have a bad back (which is why we don't do the air mattress on the floor).

The young man that checked us in, offered us a free upgrade, which has never happened at a more expensive place unless we ask. So though the furniture was cheap and the decor extremely tacky, we had a nice jet tub in the corner of our room. That seemed kind of funny actually.

The doors are cheap wooden doors, the shower is a plastic corner insert. If you're large, you're not going to fit very well. There were lots of holes in the doors and walls that were all nicely patched but indicated the quality of people that usually stay here.

You could hear other people above and around you so the walls must not be greatly insulated, but the outside wall was insulated well enough that even though it was cold outside, we were able to turn the noisy wall fan off for the night and the room maintained a great temperature. We left it on low the first night and it ran for about 15 seconds way too often, so leaving it off was a better option.

The breakfast consisted of sugar cereal, box cake doughnuts, and instant oatmeal. There was also frozen sausage patties, premade frozen scrambled egg squares and processed cheese that could be heated in one of two microwaves into a breakfast sandwich on an English Muffin. They had apple juice, orange juice and 2% milk. I'm not a fan of sugar, fat and empty carbs for any meal but if you like that sort of thing, then it was more than adequate. They did have a bowl of oranges on a table and the area was kept clean by a friendly staff member.

Every member of the staff was extremely pleasant, even opening the doors for us when they saw us coming back late in the evening. If you're looking for a cheap place to stay and a place just to lay your head on the way through town, then this is an okay place. If you want a bit of luxury and relaxing then stay some place else. Next time for $3.00 a night more, we'll stay at the Red Lion and take a cooler with breakfast foods.

“Basic room, nice staff”

We selected this hotel based on the TA reviews. The hotel was fine but that was really about it. The sheets were clean, the towels and bathroom were clean, and that was it. The staff was friendly but we didn't interact with them other than check-in/check-out. Basic breakfast included microwaved eggs, sausage, and biscuit and the sandwich could be made to your liking. Suited us well as a 1 night stop on the road trip.

“Great staff, poor services”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

The front desk staff is very helpful but the hotel and room left a lot to be desired. Building is much older than it appears outside. Carpeting is threadbare in the halls and the floors creaked. Towels were missing from the shelves in the room (no mid-size towel at all). Internet wi-fi did not work although they did have a slow computer in the lobby. Television didn't want to turn on and off with the remote AND with its own buttons. Location is on the fringe of the city and nearby restaurants are an asset, although AVOID the Applebee's. I will never return to any Applebee's due to their terrible and overpriced food. I had an average stay but I think I'll try another place in town next time I visit Pocatello. Overall, clean and reasonably comfortable, but not as good a value as I had hoped.

“Just checked in.... not a place I would stay again.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

This is the first time Tripadvisor has failed me - if this is #4 in Pocatello, I won't be staying in Pocatella again. Just checked in - the woman at the front desk is great, but the rooms are VERY basic and VERY worn. My wife wouldn't stay in the first one they gave us, so we had to change to a second room. It's better, but not good. This has a clear "no confidence" from us - I had to promise my wife no more "Super 8's".

Room Tip: Check somewhere else.
