“A clean room at a fair price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2010

We stayed in Room 210, and it met my hotel/motel criteria: clean, quiet, safe, and comfortable. The room had a strong, free wifi signal, a small fridge and microwave, and a little sofa and table with 2 chairs. You can't beat the location -- not only an easy walk to campus but right next to Main Street in downtown Moscow and all the cool places there: the Co-op, the Kenworthy Theater, Howard Hughes Video, One World Cafe. it's also across the street from Nectar, the best restaurant in town. I'll stay here again.

“The Worst Hotel I've ever stayed at”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2010

First let me say that I'm by new means a hotel snob. I have stayed in some shady spots trying to save a buck but this was a new low. We stayed at the RMI while in town for a graduation and everywhere else was booked. First of all, the women at the front desk was horribly rude. Everything was done by hand, no computers, and she couldn't find our reservation. She just stated that we don't have one. Finally she found it and gave us our keys. The room stunk. It was horribly dirty and my husband and I didn't want to sit down on the bed (there were no chairs) so we just stood. The only amenity in the place aside from one small soap was a fly swatter in the closet. Tiles missing from the wall in the shower and once we did put back the covers to go to bed the sheets were tie-dyed but you could STILL see the stains they were trying to hide. If I ever have to go to Moscow again and stay in a hotel and everywhere else is book I will stay in my car before staying in this hotel.

“Funky, friendly, marginally clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2009

Despite observations of other reviewers, I've found the staff to be very friendly and personable. The location is terrific for walking to dinner, campus, etc., in Moscow. Sometimes the rooms are marginally clean, and items like the curtains/blinds woefully need updating. Still, prefer this to the overpriced national chains in the area (some of which are well below the standards of their kindred in other cities). Would recommend to a friend, so long as s/he is not too fastidious and is using the room simply as a place to sleep while enjoying the area.

“Badly maintained and badly cleaned”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2009

One of the worst motels I have stayed in in all my years of travel. To mention two details: the bathtub was dirty and contained a used bar of soap from a previous guest; and someone had urinated in a wastebasket in the room and the housekeeper had done nothing about it.

“A Love/Hate Relationship”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2007

I love the Royal Motor Inn, but for only two reasons - Location & Price. I hate the Royal Motor Inn for everything else!

The RMI is the hotel with the best location in Moscow. From the hotel you can walk to downtown and campus the only things you usually need to do in Moscow. This is also the lowest price hotel in Moscow so maybe all we should expect is good location.

The rooms never feel clean. Tie-died sheets do not reassure me that sheets are clean. The place has that old musty smell. The staff is unfriendly and not at all flexible. Our room was not cleaned during our last stay. The bathrooms need to be remodeled. This would not be a huge expense for the RMI. A key change would be new showerheads - only $7 each at their local WalMart. Why would they expect guests to have a satisfactory shower when the water either dribbles out or shoots out the side? The next low cost change would be the shower curtains. Also less than $10. How can a hotel have shower curtains that have that sour smell to them?
