When we arrived we couldn’t find anyone working the front check-in desk. When she finally came she was busy doing the hotel laundry and was in a maid's uniform. No "Welcome Priority Club Member" here. We were given $2.25 off of a purchase on their limited supply snack table in the lobby.
This seems to be the older of three properties on a dead end street and it shows it. Apparently the management does not want to invest any money in this is property. To begin with the sofa was worn out and one sinks into the cushions to the point where it is difficult to get up. The oversized chair cushion was covered in stains. There were two TVs in our suite. One was a flat screen and the other, an old CRT screen. The microwave must be one of the first small compact units made. I does not have a digital screen, just a turn knob timer.
As for the “high speed internet” – it was more like a very slow dial-up connection. I could understand this if we were located in the remoteness of the Idaho wilderness, but not in the suburbs of Boise. The refrigerator was one of this taller dorm types that worked as expected. Although the air conditioning control was an old circular Honeywell wall type, the unit looked new and worked well. In fact the fridge and the air conditioner were the only items that worked as expected.
The breakfast room is cozy (small), in fact so small that the coffee table is located in the hall. To make matters worse, there was no pancake machine which is HI Express’s latest edition to their breakfast buffet.
The crowning event came when we came back to our room after being gone for 12 hours – the room door had been left ajar by housekeeping. When we complained to the clerk on duty, we got a polite small and inconsequential “I’ll make a note of that.”
All in all, this is one of those older HI Express’s to avoid.
