Wow, my wife and I just returned from one of the BEST trips we have had yet!
I travel very frequently for business, and this hotel is one of my favorites that I stay at. You can read some of these other reviews, and I think in staying at any hotel you will run into a periodic problem. As a frequent traveler I do too, but I do not let that affect my entire stay. This Hotel has some of the nicest employees that I have met on my travels. I am here often enough that they call me by my name (without looking at the computer screen to cheat!). Any problem that I have ever brought to their attention was remedied immediately, and they were genuinely apologetic. I am a businessman, and understand that nothing can be 100% perfect everyday, everytime. Anyone that reviews and thinks that, is not realistic. The true test of a great hotel is how they handle issues.
Now on to my wonderful trip that I just returned from. If you have not traveled through Lewiston at Christmas Time, you are missing out. They always decorate the park just across from Red Lion. I have always driven by it, and appreciated it, but this year my wife traveled with me, so we walked through it, and it was awesome! This is walking distance from the hotel, and our room overlooked it, so we could enjoy the nice lights from our window view!
The Restaurant is not Ruth's Cris, but I will tell you that the Rib Eyes that my wife and I had were some of the BEST that I have had the pleasure of eating. I also really liked the BBQ Salmon, wonderful veggies, and my personal favorite is the Wedge salad before dinner. Long Island Ice Teas were tasting great, and the service was busy, but very good. Everyone really cares here.
The only thing that I can say slightly negative about this hotel is that the beds were not updated a few years ago when they updated the decor like the other Red Lions. I stay at any Red Lion that I can, and this one is one of the best, but the beds are not the plush pillow tops that are in other sites. Pillows could be better too, but all this is being picky. I still slept good.
In reading some of the other reviews, I will tell you that I have stayed in rooms on the top floor, bottom floor, main wing, far wing, facing the highway and river, and facing the parking lot. None have been poor or bad, too noisy, etc. Any hotel next to a highway will have some road noise if you really listen. Any hotel will have noise from the parking area if you really listen. This is no worse than any others out there, so I disagree with many of the previous negative reviews.
i have stayed in this hotel over 60 times in the past 2 years, and continue to give them my business on every trip! You should too!
Tip on a great out of the way restaurant - Empire of India has some of the BEST indian Food you can get. It is a non-descript store front in down town, but the owner is one of the most gracious hosts I have had the pleasure of meeting, and also one of the best cooks! Check it out if you like fine Indian Cuisine. I eat there almost every trip!
Room Tip: During Christmas Time, ask for a room viewing the park so you can see the lights.
