I have stayed in Econolodges before and never had anything even close to this experience. First, it is located in a very scary part of town (bars, sex shops, and cheap liquor stores abound) and is very difficult to access because of traffic redirection that has happened since it was built. The place looks very shabby - inside and out. On paper it advertises ammenites which simply do not exist (and from all appearances NEVER existed) - ex: fridge and microwave, drapes which fit the window, a door that easily locks). Though the surface of the room was clean, the carpeting on the floor was filthy. The particular night we were there, two rooms on either side of us were occupied by loud parties of drinking men, spilling out the door and into the parking lot, who were shouting obscenities as one another. It felt like major fights were about to break out at any moment, but the motel staff were oblivious though the sound could easily be heard through the paper thin walls. We stayed a few hours and then decided, for safety's sake, to leave and check in elsewhere. Lost a chunk of change in the process since, obviously, there was no such thing as a refund ...or even an apology.
