This August, we returned to Silver Mountain for the second time in 6 months. These condos are privately owned and we requested the same unit both times. Locations include village view, courtyard view, and mountain view. The front desk lady who answered our reservation call did a great job finding the unit that would best fit our family. Ours was a pet friendly unit to accommodate our small dog. The fully equipped kitchen was great and the in-suite laundry came in handy with young children. The only drawback was the sofa bed which our kids found very uncomfortable. We had mentioned this the last time we had stayed but nothing had changed.
Of course, with 3 kids, our focus was the waterpark. We absolutely love this waterpark as it is indoors (no need to worry about sunburns), is incredibly clean, and the large number of lifeguards are phenomenal. They are constantly on the move, watching out for anyone who might get in trouble. Very reassuring! While our youngest was content to hang out with Dad in the Lazy River, huge spray park, and kiddie area, our older children spent hours learning to surf on the Flow Rider. The instructor Jim was just amazing. He gave our kids countless tips and encouragement over the 3 days even during his off duty hours! The kids can't wait to go back again and get back on the surf. Another instructor Andrew was also a favourite and even got on the body board with our 3 year old so he could have some of the same fun as his older siblings. What a blast.
We took advantage of the Summer Friday Ride and Dine Gondola special. For $29 an adult (about $21 for kids I think), we got this amazing 20 minute long ride on the gondola to the top of the ski hill. Once up top, there was a bouncy castle, playground, and walking trails. Also included was a yummy supper. Choices included Huckleberry ribs, salmon, and chicken. Entrees came with cornbread and honey butter, mashed potatoes, corn, coleslaw, and a beverage. We ate outside overlooking the mountains and meadows. Absolutely gorgeous.
We took advantage of a couple of other dining options at the Lodge. While at the waterpark, we ordered burgers, wraps, nachos and mini corn dogs from the counter. Food was ok and the prices weren't too outrageous.. We ordered pizza from Wildcat one evening with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. Outside of the hotel, food choices in Kellogg are limited. We grabbed some groceries in town for breakfasts and ended up driving into Coeur d'Alene about half an hour away for dinner one evening.
Would certainly recommend Morning Star Lodge as a fun family getaway.
