“High cost, but a nice clean room.”

I would have been happy with my room if the cost was $70-$80, but my $110 was just too expensive. Room was clean, bed was nice, but this old hotel is just not a $100 hotel. I have stayed in rooms this nice elsewhere for a cost of $50, so this is just too darn expensive. Other than the cost, even though the hotel is very old, it is kept up and clean, and I have no problem with the hotel or staff, just the high cost.

Room Tip: Stay here if they will give you a good price offer. If they want $100 or more, you can do better in...

“What a dump”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

The lobby is nice, a real contrast to section 6 where the room was located. There, the hall smelled bad; there was nothing welcoming about the area, the carpet was shabby and the doors dinged and nicked.

I wouldn't walk barefoot on the carpet in our first room or sit in any of the filthy upholstered chairs. A picture had been torn off the wall, the remaining picture had cracked glass, the wall above the desk was smeared with something pinkish, the lampshade had shredded lining hanging out from it. I complained, and got moved to the room next door.

It was better, but still far from 3 star. The room and bath were "eh" at best. Clean-ish, but very shabby. I specifically asked for a quiet room, got one right next to the back door, people were in and out slamming the door and shouting all night long. My room shook every time the door slammed. Barking dogs, car alarms, what a nightmare.

We've stayed in this hotel several times before, the last time in fall 2008; it has really gone downhill since then. One nice point -- a housekeeper, who changed out the down pillows and comforter after I checked in. She stayed a few minutes past her 10 p.m. quitting time to make sure the job was done right.

The hotel is very rundown, desperately needs renovation.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

Most hotels renovate their guestrooms every decade or so. As it happened, however, we went a long time without any such renovation. The Hotel sold in October and we have been working diligently on renovating the property. This is a lengthy process though and sincerely hope you will give us another chance so we can show our true spirit of hospitality. Feel free to contact me directly at derek.mcelroy@riversideboise.com before you are coming back into town and I will do my best to put you into a room closer to your exacting standards. Thanks, Derek

“Not Committed to Customer Service”

I stayed in your hotel on 10/4. I am a hilton diamond member. I originally booked for two nights, my trip was cut short and I checked out only having stayed 1 night. I called the hotel to confirm that I was checked out, but I was still charged for the second night. Further, I booked a special that included a $20 gift card per night, which I also NEVER got. I called the Hotel this week, and they will not help me because this happened before they changed ownership. I then called Hilton, who (within 5 minutes) is cutting me a check to take care of what this hotel refused to do. I wouldn't ever consider staying here again.

I apologize that you felt we didn't care about your situation. I know it sounds like an excuse but we really had way to verify your information after your stay because of the sale of the Hotel. All of the records (even the computer systems) went with the old ownership. I am happy that Hilton was able to take care of you and I sincerely hope you give us another chance the next time you are in town. If you like, contact me directly at derek.mcelroy@riversideboise.com if you would like to discuss this further.

“"Classic Retro"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

"Bow-Chica-Wow-Wow" and "Classy" collide with this "Gem"! This hotel is packed with retro style. It is clean, quiet, affordable and comfortable. Check-in was simple and the cookie was awesome! Club Max seemed inviting as the music almost drew me in. It was too late for me to be adventurous. I slept great, with no noise to complain about! This hotel is a blast from the past that is an icon to behold! The grounds are beautiful and the river walk is spectacular. Now, in reviewing a room, I have to tell you everything....so here it goes!

If you are young enough to not know who shot JR, or who Starsky and Hutch is, this hotel will turn your stomach, as younger crowds may tend to prefer a newer modern hotel. I understand it takes perspective to appreciate age. Along with age comes repairs, upkeep and maintenance. As a hotel ages, rooms have to be maintained and these rooms show upkeep as years of re-painting and calking has left its mark. Aside from dinged doors, mysterious room odors, fluctuating water temps, ventilation systems that creak, this hotel has a ton of class and charm. It is not for everyone, but for a clean room at a decent price, you can't go wrong.

The fitness room is terrible. One treadmill had to have been older then me....., and it didn't work. If it did, it was smarter then me and I have used treadmills for years. So, a river run turned out to be the perfect solution to a poor fitness center. If you run, I recommend it! At breakfast, we decided to stay at the hotel. Two garden omelets came out as Denver omelets. Sour Dough toast came out wheat. We stepped on crumbs under the table and a glass of chocolate milk was half full after the suds went down. Not a big deal, I just have to tell it all.

They don't make hotels of this design and structure any more. I imagine over time, they will rebuild, but for a peaceful nights rest this is a decent option, unless you have to have a flat screen TV or digital thermostats. I personally chuckled at the casino carpet, retro chandlers, and old school luxury. However I did appreciate Queen beds in a two-bed room, two sinks, dual headed vertical shower (see picks) and delicious stuffed french toast!

Hint: Price line for best price and if you end up with this hotel, you can't go wrong!

Room Tip: Take a walk on the river walk!
