“Very attentive owners; very inexpensive - you get what you pay for”

I actually stayed here for a full month back in Jan-Feb 2008, due to a very short-notice relocation to Boise for a job. I didn't know the area, was planning to buy a house, and didn't want to blow a ton of money on a pricey hotel. I found the Cabana Inn on craigslist and it seemed to be what I needed. I will admit that this is not your typical chain hotel, so don't have that expectation when you arrive here. However, the staff does their best with keeping things clean, tidy, and meeting your expectations. They are very eager to please and were more than happy to help me with anything I needed -- I even had trouble getting my computer to sync with the wireless internet, and the owners had their son trouble-shoot my laptop for me. I was staying there on a weekly rate, but when I did finally buy my house, they even let me negotiate what I thought would be a fair rate for the portion of the last week I'd be there. I really like the people that own this place and think they do their best to try to make your experience pleasant -- you just have to speak up if something isn't to your liking. Heck, they even picked which room they gave me based on the fact that I'd be staying there a long time and they thought it would be more quiet and convenient for me! Now that's nice!

Were there some times that I was woken in the middle of the night by other rowdy guests? Yeah, but that's not the hotel's fault -- it was people running around in the parking lot. Bottom line, if you are looking for an inexpensive place that has some nice features -- a mini-fridge (the larger size), microwave, lots of room, and conveniently located to many services such as groceries, a laudromat, plus restaurants, bars, etc. -- and you like to support local businesses, then this just might be the place for you.

“Great location but noisy and disgusting!!”

As I was only in town for a couple of nights and needed to be close to the downtown core and did not need luxurious accomodations so I checked into this property. The room was nothing to write home about, but was pretty clean and the location was great. Around 4AM, I was awakened by the people staying in the room above who decided to have a bath! The noise of the pipes and water running is what initially awoke me. The it quieted down when someone was taking a bath and I nodded off again. I was awakened 20 minutes later when they released the water in the tub and I heard it gurgling and bubbling up into my bathtub!! It was not only gross and disgusting (dirty bathwater and pipe residue coating the bottom 2-3" of the tub in my room) but there was also a revolting odor in the bathroom - I had to close the door and open a window to get some relief. I spoke to the manager in the morning about the problem and his solution was to give me another room to shower in!!! This place should be reported to the local health authorities!!!

“Good value- quiet, clean, pleasant staff”

Stayed at the Cabana when the nearby Red Lion at which I was attending a conference was full. At half the price of the Red Lion, I thought the Cabana was a good value for a room that was very quiet and clean. I didn't notice any odd smells in the room as mentioned by one of the reviewers. Free internet worked OK but seemed a little sluggish in the evening. Clerks and house keeping were very pleasant.

“Chill the *&%#@ out!”

This hotel is not at all horrible. It is very basic, with smoking rooms that do smell like tobacco and lights that don't work. But what do you expect for $40 in this country? Especially for a downtown hotel that is not a crack den?

I prefer to patronize places that are independently owned rather than hotel chains along freeways. Besides, I prefer not to spend over $60 for a motel when I stay in an American city.

The family proprietors are perfectly nice and the hotel is within walking distance of downtown. There's even a gay bar (Lucky Dog Tavern) within blocks so you can get yr drink on.

And with the name Copa Cabana Inn and its wonderful old sign, I can't understand wanting to stay anywhere else in Boise.

“The Cabana Inn is OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2010

A thumbs up for the Cabana Inn.

Stayed at the Cabana Inn for one night while on business. Usually, I stay at the Vista Inn up on Rose Hill, but there's not much up there in terms of restaurants, C-stores, etc., so I decided to stay downtown. The Cabana is on 16th, and the downtown stuff is collected around 4th - 12th streets so pretty much everything is right there close by. You can walk to wherever you want - all services. The Cabana has good views of the nearby skyscrapers (Idaho style) from some of the verandah's. The Capitol is right there too - it's a beautiful building.

For $46 you can't go wrong with the Cabana Inn. This is an older place on the west fringe of the CBD of Boise. The Inn was built in the 60's or early 70's and has masonry construction and concrete floors - no noise from the neighbors. Yes, it's a bit dated but it's great for a quick swing through, a business traveller, or a family on the way to somewhere on vacation. I would recommend this motel to guys who need a place for a week during business, or whatever. It was cold during my stay, but in the summer I could envision dragging a chair out from the room to sit in the sun on the walkway (verandah) after work in the evening. Everything worked. The heater unit, shower, sink, lights, TV; all that stuff was OK. My room was good sized, clean, and pretty quiet. The furnishings were basic but clean. The bed was OK. The room didn't smell funny. There's no pool for the kids, BUT!, it's just down the street from the Torch, which used to be the strip club, then used to be the gay bar, then used to be the strip club again, and is now a lingerie bar. I'm mentioning the Torch because that's where finger steaks were invented. There are a batch of bars and eating places within a stones throw. Albertson's is 3 blocks away, and there's a C-store just a half a block down Fairview.

If you are just looking for basic accommodations and do not have extremely high expectations, this I would recommend this place. If you are a nitpicker who can find fault in anything - just keep driving. This is a common man's place to stay without any of the frills and dinner clubs of the high priced places.

I read the negative review from the dude from Bainbridge Island. Then I read the other review he posted about some Thai restaurant. Discount the Bainbridge Island guy - he is never satisfied with anything. Read what the other posters have to say about this place instead.

I am a common Man. I've been all over the world. I have stayed in the best and the worst of the worst. I would recommend this motel to my friends.
