“Great hotel and service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My girlfriend and I picked the Fitzpatrick as the place to celebrate our one-year anniversary. I chose room 307 (aka "The Tower Room") based on suggestions from other reviewers. Since it was a special occasion, I called the hotel the day before our stay and asked if they could pick up a nice bouquet of flowers for my sweetheart (awww.....). The front desk person was happy to help me out with this and ended up choosing a beautiful arrangement from the local florist, Hendrick's. She was also very discreet in discussing the extra charges for the flowers in front of my girlfriend upon check-in.

Our room was cozy and charming. Flawless, clean, and neatly decorated. There was a ceramic stone fireplace with a remote control - pretty nice feature right there. We had a nice view of the downtown square (not much to look at, but still a nice view). We went at a time when not much was going on, and it turned out to be a very peaceful visit. A continental-style breakfast was served in the morning, and there is a nice eating area inside as well as in the back courtyard.

There are other places to stay while in Washington, but I have a feeling we'll be back at the Fitzpatrick at some point. Well worth it.

Room Tip: Ask for a tower room (or, a room that faces the street).

“Experience a piece of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Staying at the Fitzpatrick is more like experiencing a piece of history than just enjoying an overnight accomodation. It has been restored beautifully and feels like staying in an old Southern home. The owners are very gracious and strive to be sure that your needs are met. Recent improvements made this stay much better than one we had experienced a few years ago so if you have tried it before and were not thrilled, we would suggest giving it another try. We are glad we did!

Room Tip: Would choose a room facing the front but have also stayed in a standard room facing the back which w...

“A charming escape.”

A hotel that acts like a Bed & Breakfast should get your attention in a hurry. This charming, completely renovated hotel is in itself a piece of history. But it lives in a small town overflowing with pre-Civil War homes, most of which are beautifully kept. The Fitzgerald is currently open only on weekends; but a couple of days is all you need to relax and enjoy its treasures. The innkeeper (Oktay) is as accommodating and personal as you might want. Breakfast is included and, while not a dining extravaganza, it far surpasses the selections offered as an add-on at most chain hotels. A great getaway destination for a weekend breather.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Square are worth the difference. For dinner - The Jockey Club across the square is a p...

“Unique, historical, and quiet”

We enjoyed our stay at The Fitzpatrick. We were greeted by Oktay and given a brief history before setting out to see Washington. Our room was pleasant, the bed very comfortable, and the shower- just right! Only negative was the breakfast- next time we'll opt to eat breakfast elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ask for room with view- we didn't and had a view of the fire escape to back roof, right next to...

“Would Definitely Come Back”

This is a nicely renovated hotel right on the town square. My wife and I were in Washington for some genealogy research and the hotel was perfectly located for easy walking to the County buildings and the local library, with easy parking right in front of the hotel. We stayed in the 3rd story tower room and was very pleased. The room was clean, quiet, and the bed very comfortable. The bed was high above the floor, but that is part of the wonderful ambiance. If you like an old-time hotel room experience, with antique furniture and high ceilings, and everything works well, then this is your place. The manager was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed for a good stay. He recommended the Jockey Club across the square for dinner and we were not disappointed. I hope we can get back to Washington soon and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The 2nd and 3rd story tower rooms are a must if you really want to experience the elegance of this o...
