“Caring people make hotel nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

You can tell that this hotel is older. Two stories with no elevators, and buildings spread out. They do have old style rooms that open out, allowing us to back car up to door (practically) to unload. The rooms were fairly clean, accommodations were up to expectations. The thing that will make us return is that the friendly staff treated us like royalty. The breakfast lady was very friendly, and the front desk people were caring, courteous, and helpful. This place has a huge pool, although we didn't use because it was January, and the restaurant next door was awesome!

Room Tip: They have smoking and non-smoking, upstairs and downstairs, as well as inside and outside opening ro...

“comfort quiet good food gas up handy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

A clean quiet room, a wonderful restaurant you don't have to drive to, room service, courteous staff; as someone who needs an accessible bathroom, I couldn't have been happier. My husband raved about the food at Austin Cattle Company Steakhouse, and I concur.

Room Tip: Although I use a "wheelie" , I didn't take a special room; my husband likes outside ro...

“Don't think twice about movin on down the road”

It's not a bad place, the restaurant - Austin's - has some of the best food in a 100 mile radius and the bar is great.
The smell of the hallway and rooms is simply disgusting.
It is a smell of rose flavored air freshened trying to cover the putrid smell of 30 year old carpet that used to have smoke in it. The hallways and room 709 smell like an old lady with rose perfume on at church.
I had my neighbor step into my room, his was 707, and he even thought it was nastier than his room.
Ok, I have spent at least 15 nights in this hotel in the back where the 700's are. Rooms vary from tube TVs to flat screens. The AC smells like it has a disease and is loud.
The breakfast is standard continental, but you have to walk outside about 60 yards to get to the breakfast room. It is an old hotel room remodeled to have boiled eggs and a waffle maker. I did this when it was 25 degrees back in the winter. Very very very cold walk.
Service is good, the maids clean well, but...
The shower curtains have such a strong mildew odor your fingers smell like it for an hour after you touch it.
Location is good. Safe place, they have security.
Anna Maria is the best bartender ever at Austin's steakhouse.
Please do not stay here if you want your clothes to smell good or get a good night of clean air...

“Needs help”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

I thought this was going to be an ok hotel for the price. I was wrong. It needs to improve on some areas. It has the potential to be a great hotel. The good stuff first. The pool is very nice, the kids loved it. It is the closest hotel to Wild Adventures. It has a good steak resturant on site. Expensive, but good food. The front desk has always been very helpful and fast. The workout room is really nice.

Ok now the needs improvment areas. The rooms that are in the back lot of the hotel really need updating. The rooms are clean, but have that "I have been over used" look about them. The rooms that have the 2 queen beds in them have the old tube TVs in them and the cable is terrible. I did found out their rooms in the front have the LCD TVs in them. The breakfast room is terrible. It is super small and good luck getting anything to eat. The lady that runs it (at least on the weekends) is rude. She is evidently over worked and under paid and it shows. The food kept constantly running out and she was too busy to replace it. She has to cook each and every sausage and biscuit (they must really value those things) as people come in so you will have to wait a long time to get one. Everytime we have stayed there has been a line of at least 7 to 8 people waiting on food. Just a word to the wise, spend the extra money on another hotel if you value breakfast. The vending machines don't take dollars, so plan on having change or you are going to make a visit to the front desk. The guest laundry dryer was broken for 3 days the first time we stayed.

Room Tip: Stay in the front rooms if you do not need 2 queen beds. They are more up to date.

“Our return stay was not good.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

Our first stay going down to Florida was a good experience. Our room was fairly clean and all was good. Our second stay was a nightmare. Our room was upstairs located on the front of the bldg. where we heard street noise and were awakened in the middle of the night by flashing lights of 5 or 6 police cars on the street in front of the hotel. This went on for hours so it would seem . There was no elevator to reach the second floor and the walkway was open to the elements. When we arrived, we had to call the desk for bathroom tissue as our room had none. The sink located in the shower/commode area instead of outside that area was inconvenient for it slowed our nightly and morning ritual. The drapery covered the air conditioner so that no air could circulate. Husband tucked it around the conditioner so that we might have air. The room needed soundproofing and in my husband;s words needed a bomb to go off in it. It was not clean, felt sticky and I am not sure we had clean sheets. The good thing was that the restaurnt Austin's was located next door for our evening meal so we could walk to that delicious spot. The continental breakfast at the hotel was appreciated. The lady who worked there kept it spotless with her constand cleaning and wiping of spills. She is to be commended.

Room Tip: Go groundfloor and stay away from facing the street.
