“Mostly highs, but a few negatives worth mentioning”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2011

3.5 stars. Mostly, the house was great and suited our group (7 adults) just fine. The kitchen is large enough for a few people to work in, and there are multiple refrigerators to store plenty of food and drinks. The living room has plenty of seating, most of us thought the beds and pillows were comfortable, and the screened porch is huge and perfect for hanging out at night. The place is easy to find, and once you're in the back, you can't even hear the noise from the main road out front.

That said, we felt the property was slightly misrepresented online, and so wanted to address those issues here:

- Distance from the beach. The owner told us that the house is just 4.5 blocks from the beach. This may actually be true, but we couldn't find that north beach he mentioned. The main beach that everyone goes to is probably 1.25 miles away - not a huge distance to be sure, but too far to carry coolers, chairs, etc. Plus, most of the distance is on US 80, a busy four-lane road not made for pedestrians. So you will end up driving to the beach, and paying 1.50/hr or so for parking. Not a dealbreaker for us, but not what we had hoped for.

- Beds. The house claims to have queens, but the two downstairs bedrooms are just doubles (I'm not sure about the master). And the 'sleeping nook' is literally a windowless walk-in closet. There is an air vent, but it didn't seem to work when we were there, so my friend who had volunteered to take 'the Harry Potter bed' had to bunk with someone else.

- Other, smaller concerns: The yard is not quite as large as we thought it would be from the photos (but this is not unusual in rental house property listings). The wireless didn't work for us, despite the modem showing a green light. A couple of the lamps were burned out, and the light in the half-bath takes a couple of minutes to warm up to full strength. One of the porch doors was missing the dowel to secure it at night.

That said, we had a great time in Tybee and would consider the Outdoor Inn again, as long as our group stayed relatively small.

“Wonderful quiet place to get away from it all.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

This house is beautiful and well suited for a family or group. Our group had 7 adults and 6 children. The space held us comfortably. This house is right on the main road when traveling onto the island but is situated between two businesses so the nights are quiet. We needed to drive to the beach for the day but that was a minor inconvenience for us. The owner was laid back, willing to answer questions and amenable to our requests.

“Kayak and B and B Fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2006

If you would like to combine Georgia small-town island relaxation with water fun and exercise, do the Outdoor Inn experience at Tybee Island. The Outdoor Inn is an unconventional accomodation experience because it's a large home whose spotless kitchen, comfy living room, dining room and wrap-around porch are shared space. Yet the cute, clean, comfortable bedrooms are individual--and the entire upstairs, or "The Family Suite" sleeps six comfortably with a jacuzzi tub and Georgia Salt Marsh view out back.

Next door, you can rent a kayak and glide through the salt marshes, or schedule a group tour (with a guide) of the salt marsh habitat that includes clever, playful porpoises, birds, and manatees. It's affordable, the house is spotlessly clean and comfortable (reminiscent of the best European youth hostel) and the kayaking experience is awsome.
