“What a view”

What a great place to stay in January. We had a room overlooking the ocean. Most of the staff(especially Marci) were cordial and helpful. A couple of them needed an attitude adjustment. There was a good continental breakfast( how about some fruit). The advertised wi-fi does not work in the premium oceanfront rooms.Smoking is allowed on the balconies but we found the smoke drifted back into our room even with the patio door closed. Lets make this a truly smoke free hotel and not allow it on the balcanies !!!

Room Tip: If you are dependant on wi-fi do not book the oceanfront rooms.

“A Gem Amongst Giants”

We chose to spend New Year's Eve at Tybee Island as we really like the beach and fireworks. The Desoto Beach Hotel offered us the chance to combine these for New Year's Eve. We booked a Premier Ocean View room with a private balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. In the morning one could sit out and enjoy the waves. We went for numerous walks on the beach. At this time of year it was relatively cold however I appreciated the beach access. I'll bet the beach is crowded in the summer months. It would be great to be so close after taking a swim. They also offer beach chair and umbrella service.

The staff was very friendly always greeting you. The continental breakfast was stocked with variety. Our room had a refrigerator and microwave. Nicely furnished with king size bed. The only thing missing was a luggage rack for a suitcase.

I really liked how the lobby was decorated with pictures and memorabilia from the past. There is a handwritten letter from a veteran describing meeting his wife at the hotel accompanied by a hotel brochure featuring her as one of the models posing by the pool. I feel fortunate to have stayed at an establishment with such history !!

Room Tip: All rooms are accurately described on the hotel website.

“Not a hotel but its pretty decent”

I am here right now (Jan 7 2012) at the Desoto and did a good review of the reviews before I got here. At one time, I hear that this was a grand-dame hotel but now its really a motel. That being said, its pretty OK. Hotels=glasses and ceramic coffee mugs. Motels= plastic, styrofoam and polyester and thats what the Desoto is but if you are OK with that, you will like the place. I am on the 3rd floor of the main building so I am not dealing with an expose direct access (I am a woman alone here for business) and have a decent view of the water from my room. Its very, very clean and large and I have a walk in shower which I like. The continental breakfast is terrible but the coffee is good and there are several excellent breakfast restaurants nearby. So if you are OK with it not being a starred hotel, come on down! Otherwise, look on line for a true hotel in the downtown Historic Savannah with "stars".

Room Tip: I am in room 304 which has a decent view of the water. ASK if you want or need an interior access ro...

“Great Holiday Getaway to a wonderful Island!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

First visit to Tybee Island enhanced by a great place to stay! This is a very walkable island. Parked the car when we got there Friday afternoon and didn't drive it again until we headed out on Monday morning. A block or two away from many of the really good restaurants on the island. The staff are great and most helpful. The rooms are nice but a little tight in places...but i didn't go to the beach to hang out in my room! Nice shower...big enough for you and several of your closest friends. Will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the six beach front rooms, nearest the beach for the best views of the beach.

“Felt at Home”

I recently stayed at the Desoto Beach Hotel for two nights and felt very welcomed by the staff. They were very friendly and went above and beyond to accomodate us. You could tell they were not just employees doing their job but that they also took pride in the hotel and their jobs. Jennifer and Mark helped me at the front desk right away when I got there by charging my cell phone. The lobby was decorated with Christmas decorations and was very inviting. The rooms were clean and had very comfortable beds. The beach was just a few steps away from our room and we could also had a great view of the beach from the pool area. Their was a game room for the kids by the pool which really came in handy with two kids. I had an excellent experience and would highly recommend this hotel. Definitely plan on returning to Tybee one day and plan to stay at Desoto.
