We arrived at Tybee Island just after dark and looked for a place to stay for the night. I guess we were in luck, because it was the end of January and the streets were deserted. As we drove down Strand Ave, hotel after hotel had enticing offers on their marquees. We pulled into the Ocean Plaza, as they advertized rooms from $69 and Up. The rooms at that price were the ones facing the parking lot, so we asked about an ocean-front room and the girl at the desk gave us a very good price on it. She was warm and friendly. The hotel is kind of old, but they keep it very clean. The beds are also clean and comfortable. Here's a tip though... the "rooms" have no fridge or microwave. The "suites" , which are more expensive do. (Just in case you wanted those things). I think our only complaint was, the walls must be thin. We could here the people next to us, using the shower and talking. It seems to be a safe place, as we noticed a police patrol car drive through the parking lot at regular intervals. The view from that balcony, overlooking the ocean, in the morning was AWESOME! The breakfast bar, located in their restaurant was ordinary fare, not terribly good, but edible. I'm not sure I'd pay the regular "in-season" rates for this place (which are pricey) but for our purpose, it was a pleasant enough stay.
