We arrived at the 17th Street Inn for a quick break in our trip home. The Inn is very charming. We did have trouble with the parking - as many have noted, there is NO parking except for public street parking. Luckily, we found a spot in the beach lot down the street and later in the night were able to move up closer to the Inn (did not really like having to park in the lot all night). My advice - show up very early or very late, or park in the lot and then move your car later. And further advice, do NOT show up during the Beach Bums Parade unless you are in a bathing suit - people everywhere will soak you to your skin even if you are in street clothes. Luckily, we arrived at the Inn, drenched but in one piece and found our room in the back. We were both thinking this was a bad idea with the parking and the soaking, and then we saw our room. LOVED this room, it was cute and perfect for a getaway besides (had a nice secluded deck and very comfy bed). The kitchen area was tiny but it was nice to have a refrigerator to put the wine in. The best part was the Inn's common deck with the multiple sitting areas and porch swings. It was a great place to beat the afternoon heat with a cold drink or to grill out (two park grills are provided along with some grilling essentials) and enjoy the quiet. The Inn's cat, Mr. Wilson, is a perfect host (Note, there is no inn keeper anywhere on the premises). Tybee's beach was nice (get there early as well) but around Noon it became very crowded. My advice is to walk down to the 18th or 19th street beach access and get to the beach from there, as most of the crowds seem to gather closer to the pier). We took the advice of other guests at the Inn and once we found parking on 17th street, we did not dare move our car again - luckily there are plenty of places to dine within a few blocks (recommend Sting Ray's for a great steamer platter and Bernie's oysters were excellent - try the Bloody Mary there too). If you are staying for more than a couple of days, I would suggest that you rent bikes to explore the island (and leave the car parked!). Tybee Island is just too busy and crowded for our tastes. Everyone was nice (even when soaking you to the skin). We found the 17th Street Inn to be an oasis in the otherwise party atmosphere of Tybee. If our travels ever take us through the Savannah area again, we will definately be staying there.
Room Tip: All the rooms were nice!
