The staff was excellent and the hospitality wonderful! 5 stars. They represent the warmth am spirit of the Golden Isles quite well. Free conti breakfast and an amazing location.

But, our room smelled a bit misty, furnishings felt like they hadn't been touched since 1994 and bathroom had visible mildew growing on the paint of the walls. No exaggeration.

But, location obviously keeps this place competitive. Wished for a cleaner feel to the place.

Maybe after renovations it'll regain what it once was.

I used to live on SSI a couple of years ago and thought St Simons Inn by the Lighthouse is a good choice since it is not too expensive and has a great location right next to the Village and the pier.
I chose room 100 which is right next to the lobby - hence, it was rather loud. There were two weddings going on that weekend and all people gathered in the breakfast room (which is the lobby), screaming and yelling who is gonna wear what dress etc. - at 7 am in the morning. Not my favorite tune to wake up with.
The room itself was very much average, not very clean, a lot of short black hair laying around which must have been from the cleaning staff.
All that is not too bad but there was one thing which grossed me out: the AC. This is the oldest thing I have ever seen. It is disgusting, full of dirt, filthy, it is a mess. The room stank because of it and we tried to avoid using it. Unfortunately, you cannot open any windows. We went to the grocery store and bought some candles to kill that horrible smell but even that did not help at all.
Believe it or not but that smell, a mix of that AC combined with candles, traveled all the way in our clothes from SSI to Atlanta and then back home to Germany. I opened my suitcase back home and it was still there.
SSI is a very special and lovely place but I'd rather not choose that Inn by the Lighthouse again.

We were sadly disappointed with our experience at this hotel. Primarily because of the lack of internet service in the room. Our family of four is very wired and travel with schoolwork and real work to do online on the road. Although we worked with the hotel staff all weekend, we never achieved a good wireless internet (or any internet) connection in the room. This is a problem the hotel staff knew about; they said the two rooms on the third floor are the only place it is a problem. When we were able to make an internet connection it was on the wireless internet of the attorney's office next door.

Other than that, the room was adequate - hardly "deluxe" though, and although technically you can see the lighthouse from the room, the view is really of the hotel roof with the top of the lighthouse in the background (not really a selling point).

The one redeeming quality was its location. It is a fabulous location, right across the street from the lighthouse, and 3 blocks from the heart of the village. It was wonderful to be able to walk nearly everywhere.

I used to live on St. Simons, and I chose this hotel because of its location, close to the pier and restaurants. It's an easy walk (even in the August heat), which makes going out to breakfast or dinner a pleasure. The rooms are all different; several on our floor were being renovated while we were there. The one we were in had not been updated in quite a while, but it was certainly adequate for our needs. It was clean, the bed was comfortable, the air-conditioning worked, and there was a mini-fridge and microwave. The one weird thing I noticed was that I had virtually no cell phone reception, which is very odd -- I rarely, if ever, have a problem with that.

The continental breakfast was spartan, as was the breakfast area, and the parking area was clearly designed for economy cars, but the staff was friendly, and the location couldn't be beat. We would stay again, but I think we'd ask for a different room.
