“Rustic Suites in Rome, Georgia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

I visited Rome, Georgia for a wedding recently and stayed at the Hawthorn Suites. This hotel is a converted warehouse building which gives it a lot of character! It is built around an open atrium with vines hanging all over the inside of it. Really pretty. The check in and out was really good. The staff was wonderful. The lobby wasn't just a lobby but included a day spa/salon, gymnasium, furniture store and the most Wonderful gift shop called Maggie May's. Maggie May's owner, Margie carried lots and lots of "stuff"...jewelry made by local artisans, paintings, placques, hand crochet baby dresses and hats, awesome handbags, hand knitted hats with flowers on them, beautiful blown glass and some of the coolest original windchimes I've ever seen. Margie is very accommodating and helpful. She even gift wrapped things for me. My hotel suite had an extremely comfortable bed, living room area, kitchen and dining room area. The hotel also has a very tasty full hot breakfast with eggs, meat, biscuits, Belgian waffles, cereal, fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea, juice and milk. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice place to stay in a quaint little town in the foothills of Georgia.

“Charming building, BUT...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

Make SURE you don't get stuck in one of the interior, windowless rooms. This is a nifty old building that has been nicely updated, with cooking facilities in each room. But ours was like entering a cave, with brick walls and NO WAY to get any fresh air. The breakfasts are do-it-yourself and tasty, and are included in the cost. Rome is a cute little town with some nice recreation areas and restaurants within easy walking distance of this hotel. Friends were staying in rooms that were much nicer than ours, so if you insist when you make your reservation that you don't want an interior room, this should be a fine place to stay. Staff were very nice.

Room Tip: Insist on NOT getting an interior room!

We are glad you enjoyed your trip to Rome, GA and hope you will have a chance to come visit us again.
Hawthorn Suites has 8 different room types and unfortunually 3 rooms are interior with no window to the outside. When we are sold out it is not always possible to avoid assigning a guest to one of these rooms however if you do come back for a visit you may request not to be in an interiror room and we will try our best to honor this request.
We look foward to seeing you again.

“Great place”

From the time we got out of our car, my friend Jake and I were swept away by the graciousness of the hotel staff and the opulence of the hotel itself. The staff were welcoming and eager to please; it was good to see that everyone who walked through the door was treated like a VIP.

“OMG! AWFUL PLACE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

Husband had business in Atlanta and I hadn't been back to Rome in a long time.. Asked a friend to advise me where to stay.. I guess the high price here made her think this would be a nice place.. The only thing nice about it is the downtown location. I have honestly stayed in Holiday Inns that had more gracious staff.
Left after the 1st night and found other accomodations... Horribly rude people!

“Visiting Berry College - Very Close to College”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2011

Great if you are having to stay in Rome due to events/orientation at Berry College. Less than a couple miles away in the downtown area. Within walking distance of shops and eateries. The hotel is small but has a unique charm due to the exposed brick, large and overhang looking down into the lower levels. Pros: The bed was comfortable with nicer linens. Overall the room was well furnished & clean. The complimentary breakfast had above average selections, both hot and cold. The coffee was very good. Nice Crabtree & Evelyn toiletry items. Cons: The tub had an area of grime, on lower settings the A/C made noises. I had to jiggle the toilet to stop it from running and it was very loud filling back up. Limited TV channels. I have stayed in the area before and this seems to be the norm for the other hotels also as far as selection of channels. In the a.m. things were somewhat noisy. Upon making your reservation make sure you are getting a room with a window. Some only have skylights. Not sure if I would stay again but overall was a good experience, not too expensive and I felt safe.

Room Tip: specify you want a room with windows

We appreciate the fact you have listed your pro's and con's.
If you child is attending Berry College please call us directly to ensure you get the correct rate.
The college is a very short drive from the hotel and with many parents staying here during these times it gives you a chance to make new friends within the parent/student oreintation group!
We hope that you informed us of any issues while here at the property so we can make sure they were corrected immediately. We are looking into a new channel line up so if you have any suggestions I would love to hear from you. Since our hotel is a renovated warehouse we utilized the space as much as possible leaving us with three rooms that do not have an exterior window.
Again thank you so much for posting a review.
These rooms work great for someone who works at night and needs to sleep during the day
due to no sunlight coming in. They are good for a one night stay however we try not to use these rooms for extended stay. You are welcome to request a different room if you get a chance to come back.
