“OMG! AWFUL PLACE!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

Husband had business in Atlanta and I hadn't been back to Rome in a long time.. Asked a friend to advise me where to stay.. I guess the high price here made her think this would be a nice place.. The only thing nice about it is the downtown location. I have honestly stayed in Holiday Inns that had more gracious staff.
Left after the 1st night and found other accomodations... Horribly rude people!

“Visiting Berry College - Very Close to College”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2011

Great if you are having to stay in Rome due to events/orientation at Berry College. Less than a couple miles away in the downtown area. Within walking distance of shops and eateries. The hotel is small but has a unique charm due to the exposed brick, large and overhang looking down into the lower levels. Pros: The bed was comfortable with nicer linens. Overall the room was well furnished & clean. The complimentary breakfast had above average selections, both hot and cold. The coffee was very good. Nice Crabtree & Evelyn toiletry items. Cons: The tub had an area of grime, on lower settings the A/C made noises. I had to jiggle the toilet to stop it from running and it was very loud filling back up. Limited TV channels. I have stayed in the area before and this seems to be the norm for the other hotels also as far as selection of channels. In the a.m. things were somewhat noisy. Upon making your reservation make sure you are getting a room with a window. Some only have skylights. Not sure if I would stay again but overall was a good experience, not too expensive and I felt safe.

Room Tip: specify you want a room with windows

We appreciate the fact you have listed your pro's and con's.
If you child is attending Berry College please call us directly to ensure you get the correct rate.
The college is a very short drive from the hotel and with many parents staying here during these times it gives you a chance to make new friends within the parent/student oreintation group!
We hope that you informed us of any issues while here at the property so we can make sure they were corrected immediately. We are looking into a new channel line up so if you have any suggestions I would love to hear from you. Since our hotel is a renovated warehouse we utilized the space as much as possible leaving us with three rooms that do not have an exterior window.
Again thank you so much for posting a review.
These rooms work great for someone who works at night and needs to sleep during the day
due to no sunlight coming in. They are good for a one night stay however we try not to use these rooms for extended stay. You are welcome to request a different room if you get a chance to come back.

“Worth the price for something much better than the typical hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2011

This hotel is located one block from the main street in Rome. It is also one block from the river. There are plenty of restuarants to walk to and places to site see. Hawthorn did a great job of renovating this old Machine shop. It has large spacious rooms. If you factor in the full breakfast bar, the price is not too bad. It's more than a Holiday Inn, but I think worth the premium. The rooms also have full kitchens, if you wanted to save on meals. Everyone we met working at the Hotel was extremely courteous and helpful.

“Wonderful Hotel---bar none!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2011

Very wonderful hotel, hidden little gem, charming, quaint, and very clean. Roomy suites with kichenettes. Near all local restaurants and shops within walking distance. I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Rome... hated it (old, run down, doors did not lock,etc)... found this place and I am so happy, don't want to leave!

We hope that you will have another chance to visit. Hawthorn Suties is located downtown and is so convient for any traveler because you can walk to shops and restaurants instead of driving around in a city that you are not familar with!
We are glad you enjoyed your accommodations while here.

“Wonderful relaxing stay”

My hubby and I stayed just one night at the Hawthorne on April 30th. We love the style of the historic building. The room was fantastic looking w/ exposed brick on one wall and very large windows. The furnishing were very nice and the room itself was very clean. Love Love LOVE the location! We were able to park the car and walk to dinner and then to the event we were attending on Broad St. The bed/linens were very comfortable and the breakfast was amazing!! They had eggs, grits, ham, biscuits, hashbrowns, french toast and much MUCH more. We would definitely stay here again!

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor.
It's obvious that you respect the preservation of old buildings. We have made our rooms oversized and very comfortable just the same as your home.
We are glad you enjoyed the breakfast as our cook really takes pride in her job.
She also fixes the meals for the Wednesday night social so if you get a chance to come back make it a point to stay on a Wednesday!
Remember that the Fall is a good time to visit so you can take advantage of our free bikes to ride the river trail!
Again thank you for your kind words.
