We needed a single night stay during our two day drive to Florida. We saw that Microtel had dual queen beds and breakfast for $54. We thought this will do, it was only one night. We were arriving in the afternoon, had evening plans in Savannah and all we would need the place for is to sleep.
The overall condition of the hotel was acceptable, clean but the rooms were small so we tripped over each other in the rooms and the bathroom. The front desk was easy to check in, especially since we already booked and prepaid for the room. The building was secure but the doors and security locks were well worn. You had to make sure the door closed behind you.
The building has a fire sprinkler system, fire alarm system and smoke alarms in each room. As a Fire Marshal that enforces these requirements everyday, these items are very important to me.
It was 100 degrees outside so we went to the pool to cool off. The temperature was bath water and the water tasted like salt water. There was no chlorine. The next morning I saw a couple of teenagers walk up the street and jump in the pool. I guess it ends up a community pool.
I believe that some of the hotel is also used for long term stays of families with federal assistance.
The beds were tremendous. Nice and soft. Queens were very big.
Breakfast was alright. Typical bagels, donuts, cereal, Lego-my Eggo waffles and coffee.
