“Mountain Creek Inn at Callaway...the good, the bad and the ugly..,”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2012

I recently spent two nights at the Mountain Creek Inn.

The GOOD....
- Gardens is a beautiful place.. the gardens are lovely and there's plenty to keep you busy during your stay. A nice place for a weekend getaway.

-Rooms/ grounds at the Mountain Creek
are clean. The inn was quiet and peaceful during our stay. Front desk staff was friendly. The inn has a restaurant (with limited hours) and a bar.

-This is the least expensive way to stay at Callaway.

The BAD...
-The Mountain Creek is an older lodge... Rooms have the basics only and feature exterior doors that open onto either the parking area or a courtyard.

-There are no laundry facilities at the hotel.

-Food in the restaurant is not impressive...breakfast is by FAR their best offering of the day.

-Staff in the restaurant and bar don't seem to like their jobs very much. Service was not good.

The UGLY...
-You might as well turn your cell phone OFF during your stay... Cell reception is
terrible at this hotel. We had to go into the parking lot to get even a half bar. No reception in the room at all.

“Great Stay!”

I will admit, after making reservations and taking advantage of Callaway Gardens Spring special, I was quite concerned about what our accommodations would be like upon arriving. We arrived at the Mountain Creek Inn and I expressed my concerns to the desk clerk. She was very warm and gracious and explained that some guests prefer the older rooms but they also had some newer, recently renovated rooms as well. I requested the newer renovated room and she took care of us. We were given room #642 and were pleasantly surprised upon entry. It was larger than expected, had a mini-refrigerator, in-room wi-fi, iron and board, blow dryer, coffee pot with all the fixings, comfortable king size bed, chair w/ottoman and plenty of light. What a relief it was to me. I will say that the bathtub/shower is due for an upgrade or renovation but it was clean. Really feel like we got a good value for our dollar and would stay here again without hesitation.

“Mountain Creek Inn...Don't Stay Here.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2012

The registration area sucks you in...it's beautiful and the clerks are most helpful and friendly. THEN you walk outside and enter the motel area itself. It is old (not "historic" or "refreshed", as the site calls it), but just old and poorly maintained.
We were given a room overlooking the meeting center roof, with an elevator door opening right in front of our window (this was selected for us on a not-busy weekend, and we had advance registrations, so I was a bit surprised to receive this room). A/C ran loudly and intermittently through the night, shower hot water would not turn completely off, paint was peeling off the main area walls--all obvious problems that shouldn't exist. There's no complimentary continental breakfast available...either purchase the expensive restaurant breakfast or drive a couple of miles to eat. For over a hundred dollars a night, this is no deal.

“Beautiful setting, disappointing accommodations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2012

A friend and I stayed at the Mountain Creek Inn for 2 nights. We had a room which faced a very pretty wooded courtyard so it was a very pleasant setting . And the staff (front desk and restaurants) was very accommodating and friendly. However, the rooms were overpriced and small. If we came again we would spend a little more and get one of the nicer accommodations. Our visit to the Gardens was wonderful. it couldn't have been any better. One note for those of you planning a trip--as we checked out the clerk told us that our receipt would get us into the gardens that day. I'm not sure how this works and the Gardens aren't real expensive but, for the two of us, it was $33 so it's worth asking about.

Room Tip: Make sure you are on the courtyard side.

“Mountain Creek Inn stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2012

We stayed overnight for Mothers Day. Was ok, but wouldnt stay at this Inn again-would stay at Days Inn-looks new, in Pine Mtn. Rooms were bit dirty-dust,hair,dead small bugs on floor. No cups. No towels by pool.Pool very cold. No hot tub we saw. Wet/humid feel in room-hard to sleep like this! Too old/outdated for me for price too.
Gardens were nice.Trails good walking and biking. Birds ofPrey show great! Will go back someday for just the Gardens.

Room Tip: first floor if have bikes to bring in room much easier.
