“WE'LL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND TREATLY YOU BADLY!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

I came for dog show and was delighted to stay at a place that should have been a Southern Charming Hotel that was pet friendly. I made my reservations with the manger and when I arrived they took my money and then the next morning an aggressive house keeper shouted at me for several minutes about my dogs being on the bed. She talked to me like I was five years old and her child. Highly inappropriate!
The room's bathroom had a running commode and the sink's pipe ran all the water right on the floor of the bathroom. I keep a trashcan under the sink to keep the floor from being flooded. After speaking to the Manger I was told, I should have been given a pet policy AFTER I paid saying there were to be no pets on the bed and pets should be kept in crates while in the rooms. This SHOULD be made KNOWN as we talked on the phone BEFORE they take your money. I would NEVER have stayed there HAD I known their policy. It was only a ploy to take your money, with horrible staff at a run down hotel. The manager did call me at home and told me, she was sure the housekeeper was not trying to be rude. No? Then what was all the yelling and shouting at me about? This place managed by people that have no concept of 'how to' handle conflicts, and nor do this wish to do anything but say "I'm sorry" for poor ethics and poor policies.
The ONLY good thing about this place is the Travey with the great lady behind the bar. So, friends go there, enjoy a drink with her but STAY away from this money trap in the South. Rules should be given BEFORE one takes your money NOT AFTERWARDS.

“Faded Glory”

Over the past decade I have stayed at this historic hotel at least 4-5 times. The small rooms remind me of various hotels and pensions that I have frequented in Europe on several occasions.
However, on a recent stop at the New Perry Hotel, I was so disheartened to see that the hotel rooms were no longer quaint and charming, but downright dirty and worn. The bedcover was markedly soiled and the sheets has some stains on them and the bed was very lumpy. There was some peeling paint and cracks in the walls. The room had a somewhat musty smell. The staff, however was delightful and very accomodating.

If the hotel had a bit more sprucing up, without becoming a "boutique hotel", I think it could regain its allure and value.

  • Liked — The exterior, the grounds and the history
  • Disliked — IThe rooms need a lot of attention.
  • Tips/Secrets — This hotel is not for those accustomed to "mass market" chain hotels

“Beautiful Wedding”

We had our wedding at the new perry hotel this spring, with its combination of beautiful gardens and old world charm it turned out beautifully. The staff and management we more than helpful and came to the rescue when our wedding planner turned out to be a disaster. The food was good, and the atmosphere was quaint.

“Looks CAN be deceiving”

Visited this hotel during the evacuation from Hurricane Wilma. Although the landscaping and exterior of the building was quaint it was not representative of what the rooms looked like. We were put in the motel area behind the hotel. The room was dirty and smelled horrible. The staff was unhelpful. Unfortunately under the circumstance we had no option but to stay and pay the inflated price. All other hotels were full. After speaking with locals at the travel center I found that not only did the hotel have a poor reputation locally but the restaurant had its own problems. I can tell you that service is very slow...so slow that we walked out (only three other tables were seated). I had been told that the it was under new management....The remainder of our stay in Perry was at a very comfortable and clean suite at the local Best Western for the same price. My advice drive by and enjoy the historical view but don't waste your money!

“Thumbs' Down”

We stayed in a "king suite" returning
from Florida to MI after spring break. Cost over $100 a night and walked into a room that sure did not match expectations. Main hotel building and grounds looked great. Friendly staff. We arrived too late to try dining room. Thought advertised continental breakfast would be special but it was sadly lacking.. E-mailed manager who acknowledged problems so will give this property one more shot one of these days.
