“Southern Charm abounds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2011

I've stayed at Henderson Village Country Resort three times now, most recently last month. I've stayed twice in the Wynne House (room 5 and room 6) and once in a tenant cottage (cottage 9). The rooms all have working gas fireplaces (although these are turned off during the summer months), ceiling fans and all the modern sparkling clean amenities you can want in a genuine southern home setting. There is complimentary ice & water waiting in the rooms on check-in, the staff is super friendly. The grounds are gorgeous. The Wynne House's wrap around porch with the rocking chairs & porch swing is perfect for sitting out late at night and visiting with family & friends before turning in for the night or just looking at the stars.
The staff explains that the slight old house musty smell is inevitable in historic homes but I didn't notice it. There was no mildew smell which is what I dread when I'm staying in a B&B, but if the old house mustiness is something that bothers you, then the tenant cottages are the answer.
The restaurant is fabulous! The room rate includes a wonderful full complementary southern style breakfast (eggs, grits, oj, coffee, a variety of breads, sausage, bacon or ham). I've eaten dinner in the restaurant numerous times now and I love the dining room which is like an old southern style porch but much larger & glassed in. Other dining rooms are also available and appear charming. The food & service is fantastic. The wine list could be improved, but really it is perfectly acceptable.

As far as the location is concerned, I consider it to be fabulous as I have tons of family living in this rural part of Georgia. I don't like imposing on my family when I choose to come visit and also I like to have a place where I can play "host" so the location is perfect for me. The location is also great if you're travelling through GA on I-75 and you don't want to overnight in an Interstate hotel. And it's great if you want to buy some really great freshly picked peaches in nearby Peach Country in July & August. What else? I don't know. They have conference facilities (that I have not inspected) and the grounds & restaurant must make it a great wedding venue. Macon is only 20 minutes away by interstate and other GA tourist attractions are relatively nearby.

“Fantastic”

Henderson Village exceeded our expectations for dinner and an overnight stay. When we arrived, a large wedding was under way on the main lawn. We expected to get the back burner treatment because of the wedding, however we received outstanding service and had a great stay. The staff was very helpful, and our waitress for dinner (and again for breakfast) was extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the food, wine and Henderson Village's unique history. Dinner was outstanding. The grounds are beautiful, including formal gardens and well kept green spaces. We stayed in one of the Tenant Houses (a small duplex-style house). The decor was tasteful, and the room was clean and cool (90F outside). Really a great place- we plan to visit again.

“Beautiful B&B in middle GA”

My family stayed here twice in August, on the way up and then returning from NC. The room was spacious, the grounds were gorgeous, the service was excellent. My son said it was the best breakfast he's ever eaten. It was very quiet, but convenient to I-75.
It's in a fairly out-of-the way locale, and we didn't do any exploring in the local area. It made a fabulous stop on the way for us though, located exactly halfway between our home and destination.
Another important factor for us - they do allow pets in certain cottages. The price for our pet was reasonable.

“Beautiful Resort and Exceptional Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2009

I wanted a comfortable B&B enroute to Nashville, not far from I-75. Fitting that requirement, it was appealing that Henderson Village had a restaurant where we could have dinner without driving. This is a country resort that is not your cookie-cutter chain hotel. We found the "old-fashioned" setting to be simply charming, gracious and romantic. The grounds are beautifully maintained with flowers and herbs everywhere. We made sure to arrive early so my husband could enjoy the reasonably priced clay-pigeon (skeet) shooting offered ...which he did, very much so! This as well as horse-back riding and hunting are offered at their hunting lodge, about a mile away (they'll drive you) in a beautiful, peaceful setting. Back at the resort, the pool was lovely, set next to a pretty flower garden. We stayed in a "tenant cabin" situated in a circle with four or five others, all with a front porch furnished with rocking chairs or swings, in a peaceful setting. The cabin (see picture) looks rustic on the outside but is luxurious inside. The old-fashioned (deep tub & powerful rain-headed shower) but well-appointed bathroom had nice toiletries, fluffy towels and robes. The four poster bed in the very large bedroom had a very comfortable mattress topped with a feather bed and down pillows; TV, fireplace, stereo, sitting area. We very much enjoyed a gourmet dinner at the restaurant as well as a delicious breakfast the next morning. Noting an earlier review saying that the meal service was slow, I feel obligated to say that the pace was just fine. The soup was delicious, fabulous salad. The meal was clearly cooked to order and we were pleased that we were not rushed. Nicely priced wine list. The food was truly worthy of a five star rating. I had a veal chop and my husband had the thick cut pork chop, both elegantly served with delicious sides. The menu offered many other nice choices, such as fish, steak etc. We will often travel this route to visit our daughter in school in Nashville and may add an extra day to stay here longer the next time, as there are some interesting historical and cultural attractions nearby. Best of all, we'll eat at the restaurant again.
