After reading all the good reviews here, we were disappointed in our stay, but that's not to say it was all bad. First the good: The staff was very friendly and helpful, and allowed us to check out very late (we had a funeral to attend that afternoon and had nowhere to go until then with three kids all dressed in Sunday best). Also, the breakfast was good and the room seemed clean.
The main negative for the hotel is the rooms. Springhill promises many amenities, but delivering them all is pretty tricky when the room is not much (if any) bigger than a standard room. As a result, the room is an obstacle course, with furniture crammed here and there to the point that you wish they would just get rid of some of it so that you could stop bumping into things. The beds are shoehorned into such a tiny space that if you open the bi-fold closet doors, you can't walk past the end of the beds. There is next to no floor space available at all.
Like all hotels these days, Springhill puts those irritating signs all over the place asking you to reuse your towels to "save the planet, " when all they really want to save is their bottom line. So where do you suppose they put the towel rack in the bathroom? Yep, right over the toilet paper dispenser so that you can't hang up your towels to let them dry even if you are so inclined.
Another huge problem with the room is the air conditioner. There is no ducted system with a thermostat -- what you get is the old-fashioned unit located beneath the window. You can adjust the fan speed and temperature, just like in your car, but this means waking up in the middle of the night freezing. But that's not the real problem. Partially because of the room length and partially because of the partition dividing the "den" area from the sleeping area, the air flow through the room is horrible. There is literally a 5-degree difference in temperature from the beds (which are by the A/C unit) and the front part of the room where the couch is. A ceiling fan in the front part of the room helps keep the air moving a little bit, but the temperature never evens out. So you end up with a situation where the beds are getting a constant flow of cold air, whereas the foldout couch is hot and getting no air flow. Someone is bound to get pretty cranky.
So my bottom line is this: The hotel itself reminds me of a Honda Civic all decked out with bells and whistles, and marketed as a luxury car. Sorry, but it's still a Honda, just a ridiculous-looking one. The friendly staff and good breakfast are the only things that keep me from giving this hotel two stars.
