As many know, Hyatt entered the 'premium express hotel' frey a couple of yrs. ago with Hyatt Place. Like their direct competition, Courtyard and Garden Inn, they are generally along interstates, a cut above the likes of Holiday Inn Express, but a cut below Hilton and Courtyard.
I stay at Hyatt Places often enough, although I prefer Hilton Garden Inns. They have 2 very strong points, a consistently good bed and a large wide-screen TV. They also give the illusion of a suite with an L-shape sofa. They do so with very clever use of square footage. The rooms actually are a bit bigger, but not that much. However, they appear to be much larger. This is done by squeezing the beds into a corner, giving a postage stamp size bathroom, and having little bulky furniture. The only free standing furniture is an endtable and a computer desk. The TV actually sits on a very narrow shelf unit.
Overall the room is comfortable and spacious. A fatal flaw in all Hyatt Places is that they have a mini kitchen area with a fridge (and often sink), but NO microwave. BTW, this is a #1 complaint (according to a mgr. I spoke to at another HP) - even budget hotels often have microwaves today.
There is an all-too-brief free breakfast (unlike Hilton/Marriott), but it's very poor - just some breads and cerial. They do always have a bowl of citrus sections. You CAN purchase a breakfast, like bacon and eggs, for roughly $7 - not a good value.
This particular HP was typical and clean. Two negatives: The parking spaces were VERY narrow, and I mean VERY. They must be at the legal limit size wise (in my state, building codes dictate minimum parking space size.), so it's impossible to open a car door. The other negative is the inexperience of the staff, but I've noted a number of HP's that seem understaffed and inexperienced - sometimes it's hard to find an employee behind the front counter.
Would stay again, but glad I had a rental car, because to open your door you MUST hit the car next to you.
