“Worst experience of my life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

We have been going to this particular motel for 15 years. We play in a basketball tournament here every year. Last year we met a worker named Bob. Bob was extremely rude to all of our party. He acted like we wanted to steal towels and destroy the room. We came back this year and Bob was there again. We were not allowed to get a cot for our players room for the first time in 15 years because they evidently had a rule that no more than 4 youth could be in a room. This is a rule that either was new and was not disclosed or that had never been enforced until this particular trip. We offered to move people around to accomodate and put the cot in a room with adults. It took 2 hours to get in touch and get an answer from Katie Polstra. Katie was hateful and indecisive. She allowed Bob to who continued to be rude to dominate her and didn't attempt to discipline him for his rudeness to the us. Then he proceded to blame her for the decision, citing rules can't be broken. We urged him to look at our situation of not being told this ahead of time. We planned this trip just like the 14 in the past. Sometimes for the benefit of children, rules can be temporarily broken until a better soulution can be found in the morning. Bob would not give us a cot! We explained to him that our 10 year old daughter would have to sleep in the floor. He was indifferent and hateful. We then offered to pay money out of our own pocket to get an additional room. He told us that there were no more rooms for us. This is the off season for them. He had already admitted that they only have 15 to 20 rooms taken this time of year, if not for this tournament. The issue began as money then it turned into a spiteful powere trip on both Bob and Katie's part. Bob continued to lie and be hateful. There was another young man who was very nice during this incident. They ended up after keeping us up until 11:30 pm waiting for an answer letting us have the cot in our room. I have never been treated so rudely and unprofessionally in my entire life. You will be seeing other reviews about this situation over the next few days. We had girls and one young child who were not able to go to bed until late because of the unprofessionalism and inability of Bob and Katie to make a rational common sense decison. These girls had to play basketball the next day. The motel has always been a comfortable semi-clean motel and we have enjoyed our stays in the past. That is until we met Bob! I urge you to give your business to a motel who is concerned with servicing it's patrons instead of making money. If we had been told ahead of time, we could have made arrangements. You can't fix a problem when people make up the rules as they go. It was obvious that Bob does not care for children in anyway. This was his true problem. It is also obvious that Katie doesn't have the administration skills to carry out her responsibilities. Bob needs to learn some manners and Katie needs to decide if a rule is a rule every year or just when economic times are hard.

Cassie

“Good location”

I booked my room through Priceline, and got what I consider a good deal. The staff were extremely cordial - I had called and requested the third floor, but upon arrival was told the room would be on the 2nd floor. The desk manager upgraded me to a King and put me on the third floor! Unusual for Priceline bids, at least in my experience. The lobby was spectacular for this level of hotel. Nice fireplace with an actual fire in it! Comfortable seating and a public access computer was available. While they had conference space and a workout facility, I didn't take advantage of these.

The room was pretty standard. It had a comfortable king sized bed with more than enough pillows. While dated, the furnishings were ample for the room - unfortunately, they were obviously old. The couch had multiple stains and lacked sufficient cushioning to be comfortable to sit and read. The desk chair was broken - the bottom had literally fallen out of it. A microwave and fridge finished out the furnishings.

I loved the shower head - one of the best I've ever had in a hotel. The bath was large and fit the bill. Fortunately the temperature was just right so we could leave the door to the balcony open and sleep comfortably - would have hated to hear the AC/Heater run all night!!

The continental breakfast was ample, with the usual assortment of baked goods. The biscuits and gravy were definitely a plus.

The best part of the hotel was the location! We were close enough to see three wineries (one was closed), lots of waterfall hikes (made it to two) and walk through Helen. The Chophouse next door was EXCELLENT. I would definitely recommend getting reservations earlier than you would expect for most of the better restaurants in the area. Even though it was after "peak" leaf season, these filled up rather quickly.

Overall, I would say this was an average hotel with above average staff in an excellent location and a great deal for the money.

Room Tip: Request an even room number to be on the lake side and see sunrise; odd number for highway side and...

“Great stay -- very clean!”

We did not have a reservation as this was a last minute trip to our mountains but this hotel was great. Very beautifulo scenic views of the surrounding mountains, nice walking area by the lake. Continental breakfast was very well stocked and delicious. Rooms were very clean; well supplied with towels, soap and shampoo. Hotel has patio/deck on each room for beautiful views. Try it if in the area.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room, but all rooms have great views.

This is by far the best value---and that is what I am about--best view for the money,

The manager was top notch (and I travel a lot!)

The rooms were very clean, A/C was cold!

We have stayed at pretty much all of the others and this one is by far the best value.

“Not a typical Ramada Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

We spent last weekend at Ramada Inn, The Lodge on Lake Chatuge, and were pleasantly surprised. I am not a fan of Ramada Inns, but we choose the Inn because it is a short walk to the GA Mountain Fairgrounds, our reason for going to Hiawassee. The rooms were very clean, spacious, the linens were snow white and soft, (we love extra pillows and each bed had 4 huge pillows) and every room has a balcony with a view of Lake Chatuge, the Mountains or both. The complimentary continentaly breakfast offerred much more than we expected. Although, not "home cooked", it was more than ample...fresh fruit, assorted bagels, toast and muffins, cream cheese, jellies, several varieties of packaged grits and oatmeals, 6 different cereals, and hot items, i.e. Biscuits and Gravy one day and sausage and pancakes another. They even had flavored creamers for coffee...big plus since I only like coffee with a flavored creamer. It was a busy weekend, but the staff continuoulsy made fresh coffee and kept the area very clean and stocked. The Inn has many features we did not have time to enjoy, a beach area, playground, and onsite Steakhouse. We definitely plan to stay there again next year while attending the GA Mountain Fair, but plan to extend our say so we can enjoy more time on the Lake and at the Inn. BTW, I would highly recommend going when the GA Fairground is hosting an event...Awseome local Craftsmen, Local Vendors and Great Food....BBQ, Fried Green tomatoes, homemande Ice Cream and Candy, Roasted Corn, Sweet Potatoes, baked or fried and lots of local specialties.
The Music Hall is Huge, comfortable, Air Conditioned and you can bring in food from the vendors to enjoy while you enjoy the Show. We came to see Larkin Poe, but we were thrilled with many other great performances, The Waybacks, Roy Clark, Clare Lynch and Highway 18...to name a few.
