“Great Service. Great Price. Now upgrade the amenities”
This was a spur of the moment visit to Fitzgerald, because of a death in the family. Now granted, there are no 5-star or 4-star for that matter, hotels in Fitzgerald... so you really have to pick the best of the rest. I will say, the young lady at the front desk, not only offered our large party a great rate, because of our circumstance and the urgency, but she also stuck to that same rate, even after we arrived hours later than expected (some even checked in after midnight). The rate quoted and charged was distinctively lower than anouther hotel across the hwy, that some others in our party secured. So, for the price alone.. I was very pleased, and I didn't even have to mention the Facebook 15% discount.
Location: Hey, its Fitzgerald... enough said. but there is a Huddle House, a Wendy's and a Burger King in walking distance. As well as a convenience store. And Wal-Mart is a short drive around the corner. There is no railroad track nearby, which says alot for Fitzgerald, which is notorious for late night freight-liners making their run. The parking lot is very well lit, and very spacious for larger vehicles and trailers.
Cleanliness: Well, to be nice, overall, the grounds and lobby and hallways were well kept. I was very pleased that the lobby smelled of cleanliness and not mildewed or soured. However, i was hurt when I found out that the food being prepared in the breakfast room was not for us.. Man it smelled good.
Rooms: The room key cards worked the first time around. That is always a plus. The light switches worked. The bed spreads matched (we had a double room), and the chair was not stained. The main drawback and a very unnerving one was the appearance of the bathtowels. It is quite obvious that the towels need to be replaced. Of the 4 complete towel sets in the bathroom (total of 16 pieces), over half were stained beyond belief. Had they been washed? I think so. Should they have been discarded? Very much so. Either these towelsl have been around for years on end, or the cleaning staff does not believe in bleach.(and i was able to catch a glimpse of the washing machines, and i can see why the towels looked they way they did... time to upgrade) Luckily, we always travel with our own towel sets. There was no mold or mildew to be found in the room or bathroom, and I was very pleased with cleanliness overall.
Amenities: Very nice micro-fridge set. Coffee maker. Iron. Ironing board(although i had to request from the front desk, and it arrived in less than 5 mins.) Wi-fi (no charge, and it worked). Second, disappointment was the continental breakfast. I'm assuming we caught the hotel staff off guard with the # of people we had, and the fact that it was mid week, but ummm.. be prepared to visit the drive-thru of one of the nearby restaurants. But then again, for the price we paid for the room, no major complaints.
Overall: I have stayed at probably 4 other hotelsl in this town, and by far, I enjoyed this one the most. For the price, the overall cleanliness, the wonderful staff (including the talking parakeet or parrot)... I will definitely visit this hotel again.
