We stayed here August 19th and 20th due to a family funeral in Ocilla, Georgia. A number of rooms were rented to family and friends of the family. I was concerned about staying here due to the previous reviews and brought a bug-bomb and Fabreeze with me. Fortunately, neither was needed.
CONS:
1) Bathroom – Ceiling had rust stains and the plastic sleeve covering on the shower curtain had never been removed giving the rod a dingy appearance. Towels smelled clean, but were slightly dingy as well.
2) Carpeting – We notified the motel prior to arriving that we would be bringing a small dog. Upon arrival, we asked for a pet-friendly room. The room was clean enough and there was no smell, but it was obvious the carpet had suffered from previous pet stains. We realize that not all pet owners are responsible, but it still seemed that the carpet could have been better cleaned. Comparing our room to other rooms, the difference became more obvious.
3) Smoke Alarm – missing
4) Wi-Fi Connection – Seems that half of the rooms had connection without requiring a password and the other half needed a password. The Wi-Fi system cable ran along the ceiling and had scotch tape hanging off the wires. But it worked perfectly.
5) TV – The rooms are equipped with an older model TV. My parents (who are Deaf) had a TV that the closed caption did not work on. Our room’s TV worked fine. To be fair, since the TV's were bolted and that I felt they would not be given another room (see comment below), we did not complain.
PROS:
1) Bed – Clean, but older. Somewhat hard, but comfortable enough.
2) AC/TV/Ref – Worked perfectly
3) Staff – Mostly friendly
COMMENT:
My only moment of irritation occurred shortly after checking in. I noticed there were three rooms that appeared to be handicapped assessable, which normally would have included doorbells that would flash a light inside the room.
I rang the front desk bell and a man appeared. When I asked about switching my Deaf parents to one of the handicapped rooms, he said only one room had a door bell (I clearly saw three) and that room was already rented for tomorrow night. Since he didn’t check us in, I don’t how he knew how many nights we were staying, but maybe he was the head manager or owner and had been advised. English did not appear to be his native language, so I’m not sure that he understood me. In truth, he just acted like he could not be bothered.
SUMMARY:
This aging hotel was average and tolerable for $50 – but barely and certainly no more. $10 to $20 more would probably get you a better room on the Interstate. BUT I would not, under any circumstances, recommend it for Deaf people.
Also, beware the room rate. Expedia and hotel.com shows rates of about $65. Vista's website and Obitz showed a rate of $49. We were quoted a special “discount” rate of $50. Their website shows an AARP rate $4 more than their Senior Citizen’s rate.
Last note, if you are going to Ocilla, there is a new motel on Hwy 129 called the Regency (I think). Know nothing about it, except it is newer.
