My husband and I decided to take a weekend trip to Georgia’s wine country. Dahlonega Resort and Spa was the perfect location. We were not able to check in until about 10pm Friday night. We advised the resort this when we made the reservations and they said it would be fine and a key would be left at the front desk. I even called the resort on Friday to confirm our late check in. When we arrived, the key for our room wasn’t there and I had to call the manager on duty, Rachel. She lives on the resort (thank goodness) and she was super nice and accommodating but I felt terrible for calling her so late. We also booked a Cottage room and were told this was the only room available, however, upon check in we were put in Cabin 19. I have to say I’m glad we were put in a cabin because the cottage rooms are part of house with 4 rooms; the cabins are in clusters of 4 each, for maybe a total of 12 on the resort, but have more privacy than the cottage rooms did. We checked out our cabin…a little hard to find due to no outside lights on but we managed. The cabin was very clean and included: 2 queen beds with sheets, AC and a heater, small fridge, coffee maker, large closet, and private bathroom with a shower, towels, shampoo and soap. There is no TV so bring things to do…games or a laptop (WiFi not available in the cabins but good everywhere else on the property) but resort offers also yoga for a small fee, spa (fee also), a hiking trail, pond (bring your fishing poles), jacuzzi, or you could also just relax. My husband and I chose to do breakfast at the resort (extra fee) because there are no restaurants near except downtown Dahlonega, about 15 minutes drive. Breakfast was a buffet since a yoga group was there and was served from 8:30-10am. Breakfast included: muffins, fruit, oatmeal, eggs, sausage, juices and coffee. We sat outside on the front porch, which had a beautiful view of mountains! The resort provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner but they require 24 hour notice on this. I would recommend this if you don’t want to drive into downtown Dahlonega or bring your own food. After breakfast, we drove to the 3 wineries closest to Dahlonega Resort: Blackstock, 3 Sisters, and Frogtown about 2 minutes away. The resort was having lunch and dinner that weekend since a yoga group was there but we chose not to eat with everyone else and brought some sandwiches. Sunday morning breakfast consisted of pancakes, bacon, eggs, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, juices, and coffee. Dahlonega Resort and Spa has a gorgeous location and is very relaxing; only thing wasn’t impressed with was that the resort was geared toward yoga lovers; nothing against that because I enjoy yoga but I was looking more of a romantic weekend with my husband. Make sure to check out downtown Dahlonega…lots of shops, great food, and sometimes live music on Saturdays. There are also several waterfalls near, hiking and biking trails, and two other wineries.
