My spouse and I stayed at the HGI Columbus on July 31st, 2011.

After reading Trip Advisor reviews I picked the HGI because of the cleanliness ratings, which were good. An added attraction were the reviewer's descriptions of the lovely setting of the lake, ducks, and landscape, etc.

One reviewer mentioned booking a lakeside room, so I called the hotel to book, rather than making the reservation online, as there was no area for "special notes" on the reservations form online. I spoke with Joyce who told me to book online, then call back and she'd note the special request of a lakeside room, if available for our stay.

We arrived at the hotel and checked in at the desk. I asked if the room was lakeside and the clerk looked on the computer terminal and told me the lakeside rooms were first come, first served. The room we were given overlooked 2 parking lots, and was immediately next to the elevator and ice machine. It was quite noisy, even with the television turned on in our room.

Immediately upon entering the room I noticed a "mildew" odor, which eminated from the bathroom. Though it looked clean (there were no mildew stains round the bathtub) the odor was very strong.

The only positive of the stay was the very nice breakfast buffet attendant who brought me a cup of coffee from the kitchen, when it was discovered that the coffee maker on the buffet had malfunctioned, and there was no coffee immediately available.

I would not book again at this HGI.

I stayed at this hotel while in the area on business in August 2011. Check in was efficient. It was a nice, clean hotel with a small bar and small business center. Room was clean and well appointed. Parking and internet were free. It's possible to run from the hotel, but if you go too far, you will arrive at a dark, narrow, busy road, which isn't the safest place to run on a dark morning. Unfortunately, breakfast is $10.

We travel a lot with out athletic team and usually don't have time to focus on the hotel. The Hilton Garden Inn Columbus leaves us considering devoting more attention to the lodging details even though we spend little time at the hotels.

I wasn't in charge of the hotel selection or negotiating the price so I can't speak to the arrangements that were made for the group but our coordinator did a great job. Considering the rate we were paying I was amazed to find that the location was convenient to our venue, the property was beautiful, and the lobby and common areas had designer details and was well maintained.

We were in Columbus for a 5-day athletic event with 12 teenage girls, most with their families so I'm sure we were a challenge for the hotel. In spite of this the staff--from the front desk to the maintenance personnel--were pleasant and accommodating. Our room was comfortable, quiet, and well-equipped relative to the rate we were paying.

It got better once we met for our first breakfast. The breakfast was good and there were numerous options. The cook was very accommodating and patient considering that our entire group converged on her with our orders about the same time as the business guests. The wait staff was proactive in meeting our needs.

We used the laundry room every night to wash uniforms. It served out needs nicely.

CONS: There was a scratch in the ceiling over our bed. Okay, so I couldn’t think of anything else.

Stayed here for 2 nights in July 2011. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We got allocated a room overlooking the lake which was beautiful. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The bed had settings which allowed you to set the firmness of the mattress on each side which was really great. we had a fridge and microwave in the room. Location was ideal and the wooded area/lake surrounding the hotel was lovely. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.
