After a long drive from Tallahassee, FL, arrived at the Courtyard Marriott at 2:30 a.m., as expected. Earlier that day, had confirmed late arrival with daytime desk clerk at hotel. Upon entering the doors, met by agroup of four who were leaving saying the desk clerk was drunk and had locked himself in the back room and they were unable to check in. They were proceeding to another hotel. Finding that astonishingly unbelieveable, I proceeded in and found the reception desk unattended. After calling out, knocking on all accessible doors, I decided the police needed to be there to determine the whereabouts of the missing clerk. Meanwhile, my wife back home, was trying to locate an emergency number for 'Marriott'; none exists. She called reservations (1-800 number) and was told to call Customer Service in the morning as they would be there at 9 a.m.. I was totally exhausted and not interested in driving to find another hotel since I had a confirmed reservation at this hotel. If only the sleeping guests had known they were sleeping in an unattended hotel! The police were delayed in responding due to another issue, but appeared soon after my second call to them. They found the clerk in a back room, unresponsive, so they summoned an ambulance. After quite a while, the general manager, who had been called by the Brunswick Police, showed up and proceeded to check in those guests who had not left. I finally was in my room at 4:30 a.m.. This was absolutely too much drama for me to endure again. I'm relatively sure, by appearance that this particular Courtyard Marriott is as good as any other in that brand, but I definitely will never stay there again. As of today, I have been charged the full amount for my 2 1/2 hrs sleep. I had to be back on the road by 7 a.m. the next morning. I contacted the hotel two days later and was told by the clerk that the night clerk had been 'fired on the spot' for being drunk. She also stated that I needed to speak with the hotel manager, Mr. Steele, in order to have my account for that night adjusted. He never called. I certainly hope Marriott Corporation begins oversight of this particular property. I would suggest management conduct a thorough background investigation in the prescreening prior to employment. This should never have happened.
Room Tip: Stay at one of the new hotels in the area. Why take a chance?

Very unfortunate and scary incident, indeed. As we've been told, Night clerk had adverse reaction to medication he had been taking for health issues. He was treated by paramedics and as of this date, is fine. Gift cards have been requested and are being mailed to all guests inconvenienced by this unfortunate incident. Not a typical occurrence at this or any other Marriott property.
