“The kind of Efficiency you WANT to stay at!”

I just wanted to write a quick review on the St James Suites, which my partner is currently staying at whilst on business - I have spent a fortnight visiting him in Brunsiwck with two boisterous little boys, and part way through the trip we were FORTUNATE enough to transfer to this hotel from the nearby Guest Cottages & Suites (avoid avoid!)
The rooms are HUGE, very spacious and light, with lovely furnishings in good state of repair, a nice kitchen area with breakfast bar, flat screen TV, lounge area, separate dining table and chairs, additional desk area which is AWESOME (hate putting the laptop on the dining table) and the bedroom is ENORMOUS. We have a Queen Suite, two beds, lovely firm matresses and soft, cosy duvets and blankets, a walk in wardrobe, adequate bathroom, and another tv. For the kids we were supplied with an inflatable mattress for the front room, to give us some privacy at night, and this was very comfy, and inflated at the touch of a button., the kids were impressed!
Wireless internet was pretty speedy and reliable - when it went down, management had AT&T in by 8am the next day to fix it.
Free laundry is great, with brand new machines. This is right by the reception. A wonderful benefit, since at the previous hotel we had two loads of washing stolen :( so I was wary of letting our stuff out of sight!
The best thing about the St James is that the staff actually seem like they care... the cleaning staff show up en masse, daily, and with smiles on their faces! The management ask if theres anything they can do, and then, THEY DO IT! All in all, i'm very impressed with this hotel, for short or long term stays, the price is excellent, the service outstanding, and the facilities very good indeed.
WAYS TO IMPROVE: As always, nothing is perfect. We had plenty of silverware, 5 dinner plates, but only one cereal bowl, one saucepan.... a 4 or 6 place setting would have been better. The shower never quite ran hot enough - i could either make it cold, or fairly warm...
However, i would DEFINITELY recommend St James! It sounds like it used to be owned by someone who couldnt give a d*mn but these days, its definitely one of the best hotels with kitchen in that area, ideal for long term stays.

“Absolutely Lovely”

My husband, three daughters and I stayed here for three days. Our oldest daughter was in a soccer tournament in Jekyll Island. We tried booking a room on the Island, but they were all booked. We found St. James Suites online, and through the pictures, it appeared to be big enough for our family and also had the kitchen that we so deperately wanted. I will have to admit I was a bit concerned since I had read the prior posted comments. As we walked into the lobby all concerns vanished. It was very nice, the man in the lobby was very hospitable. Our room was just lovely. It was defintely big enough for my family and then some. It was very clean and very pleasant and having the kitchen was perfect. The staff were just as pleasant. They even had a free, nice, laundry area, that was very convenient with me having to wash her uniforms between games. The trip to her tournament in Jekyll was only 15 miles. The staff were very accomidating to her/our time issues concerning the soccer games. We would ABSOLUTELY stay here again in a second! (By the way... her team won 1st place :o)

“Absolutely Wonderful!!!”

I had never heard of this hotel. We came down to Georgia for a mission trip with our church and were scheduled to stay at the St. James Suites. It was amazing. So beautiful, the furniture was lovely, the carpet was clean and the bathroom was very clean. We could not believe how nice this place was and had never heard of it. The staff were very accomidating and friendly. The new owner was even there a lot. The breakfast room was beautiful and the breakfast was great. Also the place had 3 washer/dryers and it was included in the stay. I would stay there again in a minute. We also found that there many insects in Georgia, but not once did we see anything in our room.

“do not stay here-you will hate it”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2007

i checked into this hotel in the evening. i was greeted by a female deskclerk dressed in blue jeans and a low cut t-shirt that showed off her breasts. i wondered if she was the room service. it took forever to check in but she was nice. i got to my room and nearly fell out. the carpets was filthy, the furniture looked ancient, needs replaced badly, and the beds obviously had never been changed(mattresses) since they opened (6 years ago, i found out). i was told that the kitchen and room were supplied with all the plates, silverware and pans needed to cook. i had one coffee cup, 2 plates and no pots or pans. i called the front desk and told them that i needed these things, they said that there was nothing they could do, to check with the owner the next day. isn't that what desk clerks are for, to help you out. i guess not. i then requested to move to another room. she said that they do not and will not do that. oh well, so much for pleasing the guest.
After going to the front desk later out of boredom, only cable in the rooms, no movie channels, i learned that the owner was trying to sell the place. i guess so and because of that, she obviously does not want to put even a dime into this place. half of the outside lights don't work, security is awful. don't bring your kids or check in after dark, you can't see anything.
the ac worked and most of the employees are nice. but they have nothing to work with and obviously no one cares. the owner of this place knows nothing about business or how to run one. someone please buy this place and fix it up.

Unfortunately, I agree with everything this guest has written. The good news is, the owner did sell this property in October 2007 and we have done extensive renovations. The rooms now have fresh paint, new carpet, new furniture, new beds, new linens and much more. The in-room kitchens are fully stocked with all the dishes, pot and pans and such that you need to prepare full meals. Breakfast is now a treat with fresh coffee, hot teas, juice and fresh baked muffins each morning. The outdoor lighting is all working now. Best of all, the current staff, (dressed in proper professional attire) is able to take care of any little problem that may occur and the new owners care about your satisfaction.

“Needs huge improvements”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2007

I am writting this review while staying in the hotel, This is our 3rd and last night here. I was very apprehenive about this place when i checked in as I read the reviews AFTER I made the booking.
The best of all in this hotel is a very spacious room with full kitchen and the worst we found is the breakfast. In fact, we had it only the first day and it was awful. A staff member suggested that we should contact the owner directly ("a lady who wants to sell this property). I think this place needs a lots of improvements and it can be turned around in a good place. The carpets are old and dirty, bedding needs to be all replaced.
We found the receptionist and other staff friendly.
