I just wanted to write a quick review on the St James Suites, which my partner is currently staying at whilst on business - I have spent a fortnight visiting him in Brunsiwck with two boisterous little boys, and part way through the trip we were FORTUNATE enough to transfer to this hotel from the nearby Guest Cottages & Suites (avoid avoid!)
The rooms are HUGE, very spacious and light, with lovely furnishings in good state of repair, a nice kitchen area with breakfast bar, flat screen TV, lounge area, separate dining table and chairs, additional desk area which is AWESOME (hate putting the laptop on the dining table) and the bedroom is ENORMOUS. We have a Queen Suite, two beds, lovely firm matresses and soft, cosy duvets and blankets, a walk in wardrobe, adequate bathroom, and another tv. For the kids we were supplied with an inflatable mattress for the front room, to give us some privacy at night, and this was very comfy, and inflated at the touch of a button., the kids were impressed!
Wireless internet was pretty speedy and reliable - when it went down, management had AT&T in by 8am the next day to fix it.
Free laundry is great, with brand new machines. This is right by the reception. A wonderful benefit, since at the previous hotel we had two loads of washing stolen :( so I was wary of letting our stuff out of sight!
The best thing about the St James is that the staff actually seem like they care... the cleaning staff show up en masse, daily, and with smiles on their faces! The management ask if theres anything they can do, and then, THEY DO IT! All in all, i'm very impressed with this hotel, for short or long term stays, the price is excellent, the service outstanding, and the facilities very good indeed.
WAYS TO IMPROVE: As always, nothing is perfect. We had plenty of silverware, 5 dinner plates, but only one cereal bowl, one saucepan.... a 4 or 6 place setting would have been better. The shower never quite ran hot enough - i could either make it cold, or fairly warm...
However, i would DEFINITELY recommend St James! It sounds like it used to be owned by someone who couldnt give a d*mn but these days, its definitely one of the best hotels with kitchen in that area, ideal for long term stays.
