I want so badly to give this hotel a great review. The staff and service have been amazing both times I've stayed there. It's in a historic building that they have kept mostly true to it's origins, however, some things need to be modernized to make it worth it. First of all, the noise... I don't know what else to say except yikes! The first time I stayed there my room was on the back of the building. When I was shown to my room I was charmed by the old wood flooring, the unrenovated bathrooms, the real keys that they still use for your room, the general feel of the hotel. The staff all wore suits, which I thought gave an air of refinement, and were more than accommodating. But as soon as I went to bed that's when I realized there was a train track directly behind the hotel. Trains were going through all night! Not quiet commuter trains either. Long, loud cargo trains that blew their horns constantly all night long! They literally shook the bed. Not to mention the fact you could hear everybody in every other room walking around on their squeaky wood floors. This time my room was located at the front of the building. I was relieved until I realized that there are several bars right across the street that remain open, with customers out on the streets, until 2 o'clock in the morning. Trains still went by and you could hear them but not as loudly as previously. But that didn't make up for the fact that I could hear every car that went by and every conversation that took place outside of the hotel at the open air restaurants. Also, the wifi worked maybe 25% of the time. And the tv was located in the sitting room, so there was no watching tv in bed. I have nothing to say but wonderful things for the staff that run this hotel. But some serious noise prevention needs to be put in place in order for this hotel to be truly enjoyable.
