We stayed here three nights (Sun-Tues) and enjoyed it. The hotel is basic, but clean and comfortable, with a great setting right on the lake. It is a little rough around the edges... Kind of like they got the blush on but haven't quite gotten to the lipstick. But it was fine for us. Improvements appear to be in process. We heard that they had significant damage from the hurricanes of '04 - so we know at least the roof is new. Proprietors were friendly enough, and accommodated the few requests we had. Office hours are limited to 8 a.m. - 10 p.m., so if you want coffee at 6 a.m, bring your own and prepare in your room.
We had #208, a standard room upstairs facing the lake. The hotel was nearly empty and we had the shared screened patio for our unit to ourselves the entire time (larger units have private patios). We spent a lot of time sitting there looking at the lake, and the setting makes the hotel special. It is adjacent to a busy road, but we didn't find the traffic noise bothersome.
The king bed was comfortable, the A/C unit noisy but efficient, small fridge, coffee maker, microwave. Bathroom was clean and we got extra towels from the front desk without difficulty. There is a dock, seating facing the lake including picnic tables, and the pool was very clean with ample chairs and cushioned chairs. The grounds could use some work - a lot of dead plants and such - nothing a hundred bucks worth of fresh plants and flowers wouldn't cure.
It was perfectly located for Cypress Gardens and the surrounding towns we visited. If you just want comfy and clean, and don't need luxury or a lot of extras, this place is fine. We'd stay there again... We're curious, in fact, to go there in the future to see if improvements are made in the few things that needed updating and freshening up.
