We booked a room here to stay overnight after spending a day at Lego Land. Our family used to always stay at this hotel when visiting the old Cypress Gardens theme park and never had a major problem with it. Well, that was two years ago. This was our first stay since Cypress Gardens became Lego Land, and it was a complete disaster from the very minute we arrived. First, they put us in a room for $89, and it was behind the building, with open access to everyone and anyone. Upon walking in the room, the distinct smell of old cigarette smoke was very obvious and repulsive. The kids, as well as my mother and myself, all noticed it and wanted out as soon as possible. Upon looking around this first room, there was a very noticeable lack of furniture in the room as well. I went to the front desk and complained, and was very happy to hear that they would gladly move us to a new room. But then, I found out that in order to upgrade to a nicer room, they would charge us extra money. At this point, I didn't care and agreed to it because I didn't want to have to face the possibility of spending a night in a room like the first one they put us in. The second room seemed much nicer, pool view, close to the lobby, and was obviously much better. It came with a refrigerator and microwave this time which was nice. We started to unpack our things and left the room, only to find out that we couldn't get back into the room. The cards would not work in the door. So, we all went back to the front desk again, only to be told that they would have to call maintenance. After waiting around for maintenance to show up, we found out that the battery in the door had died and had to be replaced. They at least took care of it right away for us. We then left the hotel for dinner and some shopping, and really didn't spend much time investigating the room, which we should have done. Here is a list of what we later discovered: only 3 wash cloths in the room for 4 people, only one tiny bottle of the conditioning shampoo was left for the four of us to use as well as only one bar of soap, there was no tv remote. We went to the desk and asked about the remote, and they said they would bring us one. When they brought it, it was filthy and looked so nasty that I actually took hand sanitizer and a tissue to clean it off before letting anyone else touch it! The bathroom was disgusting. Shower very dirty and stained, mold in the shower head and all over the floor of the tub, the towels were like sandpaper, toilet flushed so loud, and there was a general covering of dust on everything as if the room was never dusted or cleaned. There was "stuff" growing in the outlet near the blowdryer. The coffee pot lid was broken, and again, the coffee pot was covered in dust. The water in the sink would not drain properly and the sink almost flooded when I was washing my face. The water smelled and tasted nasty, almost like sulphur. After dinner when we opened the refrigerator to get out some bottled water, water came pouring out of it and dripped all over the floor. Apparently the freezer had thawed out and wasn't cold enough so the ice had melted all over the place. We tried to find an ice machine after dinner, and was told that it was right out side the lobby. I walked around the lobby and the whole pool area with my daughters, trying to find the mysterious ice maker, only to find it up on the third floor in an area that looked and did not feel very safe. Then, there was the issue with the breakfast, or should I say non-existent breakfast? When we used to stay here while visiting Cypress Gardens, Best Western always had a pretty good, free, continental breakfast. This was one of the reasons why we liked staying here in the past and we considered it a nice perk. It used to be the basics,- coffee, english muffins, danishes, fruit, cereal, etc. We were told at check in that they no longer offered the continental breakfast, and that they had a restaurant we could visit instead to pay for breakfast. It turns out that the breakfast room was turned into a game room. The entire time we were at the hotel, I only saw three people actually in the game room. Now for the big problem. In today's age of technology, one would think that after paying about $130 for a hotel room for the night, that you could access their Wifi and connect to the internet. Between my cell phone, my mother's cell phone, her laptop, and my two daughter's Kindle Fires, not one of us could connect. I even called the 1-800 number in the room to get assistance with connecting, only to be told that this hotel removed the password that was needed to access it. We were told by the front desk that we could connect to any of the NetGear connections that had an open network, but yet not one of them worked. We went back down to the lobby for what seemed like the 5th complaint, only to be told that the Wifi worked great in the hotel, but that you needed to use it near the lobby. After discussing this with the guy behind the desk who then pulled out his own kindle Fire and bragged that it worked great, so he knows for a fact that it works, we still couldn't connect in our room. So, we all sat in the lobby for a while to get some things done which was pretty irritating. Even sitting in the lobby, the Wifi connection was terribly slow. I then decided to try their computer in the computer area that they offer to customers of the hotel. I was able to at least get on the computer, which again took forever, but was not able to print out the tickets that we needed for the next day. The printer was a Lexmark printer and looked like it was about 10 years old. Even with plenty of ink in it, it wouldn't print out the tickets we needed for a show the next day correctly. The ink printed too faint and we couldn't even make out the barcodes on the tickets. We gave up trying. We were then told that the reason we couldn't connect to the Wifi must be because our room is located right in between two of the wifi areas, and we just weren't able to pick up a good signal because of our room location. Forget picking up a good signal, we had NO signal, ever! I am not sure how this hotel can advertise free Wifi because that is just not the case. So basically, for $130, we had a dirty room, no Wifi, no remote, no breakfast. You can guarantee that this Best Western will never be visited by us again. Save your $130 and drive a few extra miles to stay someplace that is clean and actually has what it advertises! I hope Lego Land gets smart and opens up there own hotel soon.
