“just ok - probably wouldn't stay again”

W e stayed at this Super 8 because we wanted to save some money. I know, you get what you pay for. Next time, I'll pay more. For the amount of money we paid, $59 + tax, is still too much for what we got. I think we should have gotten more however. No pool, there is a pool, however it was closed. When you own a property in Florida, your pool should always be open. The lobby was so hot it was unbearable. The rooms were kind of clean, if you count the fact my child (luckily not a toddler or infant) found a pill on the floor, and roomy enough. I had to stick the bar of soap under the stopper because it wouldn't stay up and the tub wouldn't drain. Eww. The breakfast was minimal.

“It's not that bad!”

We stayed here three times in the last four years, for the Indians spring training. This year we brought our daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. OK, so it's not quite as squeaky clean as other motels, but it's also a heck of a lot cheaper than any other chain motel in town. We always go over to the Albertson's and buy some Lysol cleaner, and wipe down the doorknobs, phone, remote control, etc. But you should do that in any motel, don't you think? The sheets were clean, the mattresses were comfortable, and the place was quiet. There were plenty of other Indians fans there, as well. It's not perfect, but for about $60, it's the best value in town. And everyone there is nice, from the front desk to the cleaning staff. There is a Walgreen's and an Albertson's within walking distance, and it's in a safe neighborhood. The motel, in fact, is quite representative of Winter Haven in general, sort of stuck in a time warp, like in the 60's -- not quite what you expected, but it grows on you. I will miss Winter Haven, Chain of Lakes Park, and the good old Super 8.

“Don't go there”

We booked our reservation with Hotels.com for four nights at the Super 8 Hotel in Winter Haven, Florida. We had to pay a deposit of $20 in cash "for incidentals" or if we damaged the room.
Our room keys did not work half the time and we had to keep going to the front desk to get them fixed.
The continental breakfast consisted of watered-down orange juice, coffee, a few donuts, and two jars of jelly and a loaf of bread.
The third day we were there my husband's prescription glasses mysteriously disappeared from the nightstand. We searched the room but could not find them. The next morning, he politely mentioned his glasses to the maid, and she said that she left them on the bed. So my husband asked if they could have been mixed up somehow with the sheets. So the maid got the laundress who said she had not seen them. Then we reported the missing glasses to the front desk. That same day we returned about 4 p.m. to find that both of our keys would not work again so we headed to the front desk to get that fixed and were told that they had found the glasses behind the same nightstand where we had looked and where the maid had looked in our presence that morning. Needless to say, we took everything of value with us from then on when we left the hotel.
After returning from breakfast out, our nonsmoking room smelled of smoke. I made a comment to the maid about this and when we left to get our keys fixed at the front desk, she sprayed something to make the smell dissipate.
The laundry facilities were out of order.
When we checked out after four nights, we received our $20 deposit back but no one even checked the condition of the room.
According to Hotels.com this Super 8 in Winter Haven was supposed to be a two-star hotel. I would consider it a half star at best.

“Disgusting avoid at all costs”

Quite possibly the most disgusting hotel we NEVER stayed at. We checked out 2 hours after checking in and got our money back. We too we're down for Indians Spring Training. Bloody mattresses and bugs. Absolutely filthy. I do not think this hotel is even up to health code. I can't believe it's still open. This should be shut down for health code violations.

“Honestly, a total filthy dump. Avoid.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2005

I decided just a week before to travel to Winter Haven for the Cleveland Indians' spring opener. As such, the town's hotels were basically sold out...but I found vacancy here. There was good reason for that.

When checking in, I should have taken a clue from the thick layer of crud on the check-in window. The desk clerk knew who I was as soon as I said I had a reservation...leading me to believe that they don't get too many, instead depending on a walk-up clientele. You may draw your own conclusions from this statement.

Once I got in the room, there was a layer of greasy fuzz on the phone mouthpiece, filthy carpets, the door chain was broken off of the frame (as if the door had been kicked in), the mattresses were pretty thin, the sheets were "dubious" (though I didn't see any hairs or stains)...all in all, the nastiest place I've ever stayed. It was late and area hotels were sold out, so I weighed the option of sleeping in the rental car. Instead, I went to a 24-hour grocery and bought some Lysol, sprayed down the bed, TV remote and toilet, and slept on top of the sheets with the bedspread removed and my clothes on for six hours, and then got the heck outta there. I couldn't wait to take a shower at my next stop after the game, as I wouldn't take one here (suspecting I'd leave the tub carrying things I didn't enter it with).

I'm no Felix Unger-type fussbudget (ask my wife, I'm rather a slob), but I was honestly appalled at the filth here. This is the sort of place that you'd think only exists in fiction. Avoid.
