We had traveled to Virginia beach from Richmond,to see a hockey game. After the game we decided to stay the night and drive home in the am. We decided on Econo Lodge because we had been to one before (in richmond) and found it to be simple, yet clean and thats all we needed for the night.
The first thing that had us concerned was when we went into the office to get a room, they told us it would be 75 dollars. Okay, that was too much money for us that night, and we told them thank you, but no thanks. The man behind the counter said 'Is that too much? Well, how much do you have?' COME ON!! I have never been asked that in a hotel before. He haggled the price and my friend and I were kind of laughing at this point, but I felt uncomfortable by his question.
The ROOM.....I think the office clerk must have put us in the F class room. Ground floor, disgusting smelling pillows, and it seemed like they had thrown a mini fridge and microwave in the room as an after thought.....they were about 4 feet from the wall!!!! I was wary from the get go, so I pulled down the bed sheets and smelled the pillows-eww!!!! smelled like they haddent been washed in a long time, although they looked clean. Sheets and cases were blue. I don't know why I found that strange, but anyway when I pulled sown the sheets on the second bed I saw much to my horror, BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 little bugs just running back under the covers !!!!!! And then I saw a roach on the wall. I had enough but I was very tired so I called the front desk and asked them if they had another room, maybe one that didn't have bugs in it...and you know what the clerk said? He said, that it would cost us another 10 dollars, and I asked him, "Are you really going to charge us for a room with no bugs?" He said for me to come to the office, and I did and he said he wouldn't charge me the 10 bucks and he would put us into a "very nice room" UH HUH.
I went and looked at it, still had bad smelling pillows, so we left and went to a RED ROOF INN down the street. I will never ever stay The Econo lodge again!!! BUGS and Weird staff.
