“we will not be back”

we stayed the 4th of July weekend and when we got there we found out our room wasn't ocean front instead we were put in the very corner on the street side but we were getting married and we were determined not to let that bother us at first glance the room was nice until we got ready for bed and realized that there was blood stains on the sheets so i called the number they have posted on the lobby door(because no one is there after 5 i think) and the lady informed me there was nothing she could do because it was a holiday weekend so me and my future husband slept on the couch and when i went down Sunday to check out and let them know why we were leaving no one was in the lobby

Room Tip: had to clean the room our self or risk the chance of getting charged a cleaning fee

We are sorry for the inconvenience this guest has stated they had. I will begin this response by saying, there is no record of this guest calling to our after hours office with any problems whatsoever. This guest was never quoted an oceanfront room as we are not on the ocean. This property is directly beach front on the Gulf of Mexico. With regard to the guest stating that the office closes at 5pm. This is far from correct as the actual office hours are 11am-7pm and the employee that works there stays even later than that including when she stayed with the groom of this party in the common use room so that he would not see his bride in her gown. The guest arrived on Friday and would have called us that night to report said problem. We do not ever tell any guests that we do not have housekeeping especially on a holiday weekend as we know it is very busy and housekeeping is definitely needed. Housekeeping did work that weekend also. This guest visited the onsite office many times throughout the day on Saturday which included having the front office staff assist with getting spa appointment set and never once reported any issues to the person at the front desk including blood stained sheets. This guest did check out on Sunday, but not because they were dissatisified as they have insinuated, because that was the day they were due to check out.

“FANTASTIC SPOT”

Lots of free parking. The room #54 was clean, painted and updated. Built in 1950's.
Well equipped efficiency unit with everything needed supplied. Phone, TV and radio. WI FI available. The building is on the Beach, close to shopping and restaurants.
Quiet place. Guests were mature.
Teresa in the office was extremely helpful.
Highly recommend this place

“Sleepless in Tropic Terrace”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

We stayed at Tropic Terrace for four nights in August, and overall the experience was poor.

We did like:

-being located right on the beachfront,
-the free parking (parking is at a premium all along these beaches),
-and the lack of housekeeping which meant there was no early morning disturbance every day.

We didn't like:
-the restrictive office hours (you can't see someone in person out of hours, you have to phone),
-the general lack of cleanliness (mold in fridge seal, stains on fabrics and walls), and the shabby furnishings (bed with no headboard, second-hand type furniture) in the apartment (ours was n°11),
-the very noisy air-con,
-the heavy-duty renovation noise going on into the wee small hours from the apartment above during our final night making it impossible to get to sleep (the DIYer sounded like he was in our room when drilling, hammering, etc).

As other contributors have said, this complex is a sort of co-op. At any given time, there may be owners or short or long-term renters in the various units. We saw 2 different people manning the front desk, and there is an agent who manages the rentals. She agreed to reimburse us for the final night of the stay, due to the inconvenience caused by the noise, and this was finally done about a week after we left and after a reminder phone call by us when we got home to Europe.

We didn't find this type of accommodation met basic tourism standards, as some owners clearly do not comply with the code of conduct of the complex. Other areas, such as the policy in regard to housekeeping seem unclear – there was a list of rules in a cupboard which mentioned daily housekeeping, but we were told that it was once a week, for stays of one week or more. We booked on the basis of previous tripadvisor reviews, and it may be that some apartments are better furnished than others, but all in all, we couldn't recommend Tropic Terrace. There were all kinds of accommodation available nearby and it may be worth looking around if you really have to be in a beachfront property in the vicinity of Treasure Island.

“Not What It Used To Be”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

I've been coming here for years and have always enjoyed staying here. However, this year things have changed. Instead of having the regular employees, Debbie, Violet, Bill, and Mel, there is now a "management company" that handles guest reservations and needs. The old employees knew the regular guests and made everyone feel welcome and took care of us. The office stayed open until 9:00 Mon-Sat and until 7:00 on Sun. Now Debbie is the only "old" employee left and she has nothing to do with taking care of guests. She also leaves at 3:00. The management office is supposed to stay open until 6:00, but often closes early, which means guests cannot have access to the ice machine or grab a book from the bookcase if they want a book to read. In the past, maid service was available Mon-Fri at no charge. Now maid service is only available on Mondays, unless guests are leaving and the room has to be cleaned for another guest, and you pay extra for it whether you want to or not.

“How to pay less, but get more.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2010

I stayed at the hotel for three days. When I called the concierge (Lisa) she was most helpful in all aspects of any question I asked. She let us pick the floor plan on which we wanted to stay. The room we chose was room 41. It was full of life and energy. My wife and I laid down on the bed we were sold. It was a true delight to stay at this establishment.
