The Island Bay Resort was a great place to stay while escaping winter for a few days. It was quaint and cozy with small but well decorated cottages and delightful grounds. There were many groupings of Adirondack chairs and seating under tiki huts from which to view the sunsets over the water while sipping your wine. All units had Weber grills outside and seating on their own porch/deck. Host Carol and Mike provided tips and helpful suggestions for restaurants and activities. If you are looking for a full service resort with food and beverage service, this is not it. But if you are looking for a true old Florida place to stay with a great location and its own beach , then this is a wonderful place to stay. We would go back.

This is a beatiful, small, family-owned property. There is no pool, but that is literally the only thing missing. My room was decorated more like if I were staying at a friend's house - nature pictures, a small reading library, flat screen TV, trinkets, etc. I had a kitchenette that was only missing an oven (which I certainly didn't need). There were pretty individual flower blooms on the bed and table when I got there and the CD radio was playing fun calypso music to get me in the Keys mood! There are kayaks you can borrow through the front desk, but the beach is perfect for just chilling. Plenty of chairs and towels are supplied. I can't recommend this highly enough. Easy to get to everywhere in the Keys from here.

Easy to get to in the Upper Keys, clean, with attentive owners who are on site. Mike and Carol have created a mini-paradise with their plantings and cottages. We stayed five nights in cottage 9. The hotel is located on the bayside...meaning that it has a special beach...there is some sand, but a lot of sea grass, which means manatee if you are lucky, and lots of sea birds. We bought a $3 float and I floated gracefully over the sea grass. They offer the use of kayaks at no charge...this is a great way to see the area by water. Mike and Carol can refer you to any local service you need, from snorkling, diving, restaurants, and even a massage from local vendors you can trust. Chad's is within walking distance - you could eat there daily. Winn-Dixie is just down the street, so you can shop for food items and take advantage of the kitchenette and outdoor grill. This is a "green" hotel, which means they do not change out the bed linens daily. They usually do this every fourth day, but accommodated our request to change them every other day. Bring or purchase at the CVS close by something with DEET - no matter the season, it helps to keep away the no seeums. They are deserving of their great reviews. If you want the true Keys cottage experience, you will not be disappointed!

We loved staying here - for three nights. We were two couples - each had a cabin (Bahia Honda and Sunset) one larger(Sunset) than the other. Carol and Mike take a lot of trouble to make this small spot perfect for their guests. We weren't surprised when it got so much attention (it happened while we were staying there!) Highly recommended. Sitting out on the dock watching the sunset is exactly as it is supposed to be - we felt as though we were inside a postcard! There are great lounging chairs/areas on the small beach. The rooms are clean, and each one has its own personality. We were able to spend a day in the Everglades comfortably and it would be possible to explore all the Keys from here. Close to supermarkets, and Weber BBQs by each unit. Also each unit has a good outdoor table for reading, working, eating.
